Greater than everything else
Charles Mingus was already and interesting composer. Mingus Ah Um is probably the best introduction to good Bop jazz. He is clean and decisive without being to uptight and rigid. His musicians always show how free they are within his compositions. However, in the Black Saint and Sinner Lady album he does something I have never heard before. Perhaps it is due to my relative freshness as a jazz listener. but I think this album is the best ever - and I have heard all the other supposed best (eg. Coltrane, Davis, Brubeck). This album some how gaps the most wide range of sounds and musical ideas while staying absolutely consistent throughout the entire listening experience. This is an epic album. I want to listen to it now
