The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop (2003, Paperback)

The Black Jewels Trilogy is a series about a corrupt world, an ancient prophecy, and the hope that it gives the good people remaining. If you enjoy magic, love, heroism, and evil all tied together, you'll enjoy this book. The things I love the most are the complete evil of the villain, and the complete selflessness of the heroine. I laughed, I cried, I was shocked by some of the evil things that happened, and awed by the power which could be unleashed.
I originally bought the three books that make up the Trilogy separately. I enjoyed them so much I purchased the combined Trilogy when it came out. Almost all my other books I read and sell, but this one remains on my shelf. I pull it down about twice a year to reread it. I purchased this copy because I can't find my original one and I'm way overdue for a read.
If you enjoy this book, I also suggest Anne Bishop's Pillars of the World Trilogy, Sebastien, and Belladonna.

Anyone who likes High Fantasy, this book is for you! I have read hundreds of fantasy books; from Elaine Cunningham to Marion Zimmer Bradley to Melanie Rawn to Robert Weis and Tracey Hickman... and this trilogy, for me, still puts the icing on the cake.

I have always loved the Black Jewels Trilogy, ever since I started reading it about 5 years ago. This is my second time buying the 3-in-one book. I had a very easy buying experience here on eBay.

Anne Bishop makes her characters absolutely come ALIVE. They JUMP off the page. Even though I have read the trilogy about 3 or 4 times now, that page-turning excitement always remains, which is great because that means I can enjoy this book for years and years to come.

The only thing I did not like about the book's physical condition was that two or three pages on the inside were torn - not terribly torn, but just enough that I had to get the Scotch tape out and do a bit of a patch-up job. It's a used book, and it was a fair price from the original cover price, so I'm not complaining too badly!

The Black Jewels Trilogy is one of the most fascinating and spellbinding fantasy series I have ever read. Most important, readers must read this trilogy in its entirety in order to fully appreciate it. In this novel, Anne Bishop creates a supernatural matriarchal society controlled by witches and portrays an interesting view of male and female roles in this type of environment. The story centers around a young girl, Jaenelle, thought to be a living myth who would restore a culture being lost during a time of corruption. The series portrays Jaenelle's development from witch to queen from the perspective of three males who would play an important part in her life. Not for the squeamish, Bishop generates a very dark, sad, and disturbing mood filled with horror, sex, and violence...but she does such a great job with character development that the reader begins to empathize with the characters and appreciate their quest for happiness in this dark world. This novel has everything-action, romance, drama, comedy. I gave the Black Jewels Trilogy 5 stars because (for me) it was a fantastic read - I was unable to tear myself away from the book and I became so engrossed with the characters, I was literally sad to read the last page.

This was an excellent series. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great mythical romance. This book doesn't only talk about the love of her life, but her fathers love, brothers love, and the love of her life. A great series.

This is one of the best fantasy series' I have ever read. It is a bit on the dark side of fantasy, but an addicting read you will not be able to put down. Highly recommended!
