Album Notes
To be sure, "Peace In The Valley," the first track off of the wildly experimental self-titled EP from Brooklyn noise maestros Black Dice, is meant ironically. Beginning with droney scratches and occasional streaks of chord-damaged loudness, this mini-album opener abruptly bursts into a tornado of metallic dirge, bordering on the nexus of a grindcore song. But just as suddenly, it withdraws into a percussive trance, like an army of furious geldings stomping their way through a rainstorm. "Ball," meanwhile, is like a lo-fi racket being conducted with kitchenware, a miscreant party being thrown by pre-teens while their parents are away. This collision of adult music-making and an almost childish brattiness is BLACK DICE's mysterious allure, even when it's not exactly easy listening.
