Product Information
The asynchronous Carrier Sense Mini Driver-A makes it possible for RS-232 UNIX and similar systems to communicate over two unconditioned twisted-pair cables. That's because it features carrier-sense handshaking, which detects the presence of a carrier (RTS) on the line. And that comes in handy in applications where the host must "see" a carrier in order to send a log-on screen to a terminal. At 19.2 kbps over 24 AWG wire, the CS Mini Driver-A carries your data 3.7 miles (5.9 km); maximum distance is 8 miles (12.8 km). (Distance will depend on speed and wire size.) An external DTE/DCE switch makes changing modes simple. And it's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
