"Shape Of My Heart" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
The title of this album by the mega-platinum boy band might conceivably refer to the emotional state conveyed in some of the songs. While there are the requisite pledges of undying love ("Shining Star," "I Promise You"), several of the tunes on BLACK & BLUE deal with romantic turbulence, such as the opening track "The Call" and the vengeful "Get Another Boyfriend." While some of the songs are unsurprisingly provided by teen pop maestro Max Martin, several selections here were written by the Backstreet Boys themselves, proving conclusively that they have more creative input into their music than their naysayers might suggest. The production on BLACK & BLUE is a mix of pop, R&B, and mainstream hip-hop elements; the building blocks of any successful 2000 teen pop affair. And of course, its all topped off with the Boys' trademark sugar-sweet vocal harmonies.

This is the best of The Backstreet Boys. Great pop music. These guys make you forget about the boy band stereotype. The music is great for dancing or just listening to in your car.

Pizza, Pickles, 'N' Pop: Part 2 - Black & Blue by the Backstreet Boys
    Review created: 01/08/06

    Pros:
AJ McLean's top-notch voice; surprisingly diverse; <b>"More Than That"</b> is flippin' beautiful

    Cons:
Yeah, yeah - occasionally it's a bit TOO lame

Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we? It was the summer of 1999. The Backstreet Boys were dominating the Billboard charts with their sophomore album, Millennium. They were selling out concerts worldwide. These five pinup-friendly, smooth-talking guys from Florida were the object of every teenaged female's affection, and things couldn't possibly have been better for them. I feel bad for artists in that situation. Honestly, I do. After selling millions and millions of copies of one album, figuring out what on earth to do next must be one hell of an arduous task. But the Boys weren't...

Backstreet Boys Do It Again with Black and Blue

    Pros:
    Sweet, sentimental music

    Cons:
    None

When my two older daughters both asked for the Backstreet Boys CD, Black and Blue I was willing to get a copy for both of them. I have always enjoyed Backstreet Boys music; the lyric are sweet, the music is pleasant to the ear, and I consider it wholesome teen music in the face of some of the stuff that is heard on the radio these days. Each and every one of the songs on this CD is a romantic, love song. The lyrics are complimented by the voices and the music, making listening to this CD pure pleasure. When I listen to it I am transported back in time to my own teenage years; the years of...

Max Martin Continues the Tradition with The Backstreet Boys in Black and Blue

    Pros:
If you like their previous material, you like this cd.

    Cons:
If you were looking for "growth" from the boys, this isn't the cd to purchase.

Special Note I posted this on the first day this cd was released. At the time, Epinions did not have the category up. I was promised that it would be moved. It never was. After earning a whopping 4 cents Income Share, I decided to delete and repost in the appropriate area. Welcome to the day that all obsessed Backstreet Boys fans have been patiently waiting for the release of their third American cd, Black and Blue. Warning! Long! Wordy! Preamble I happily predict that I will receive quite a few NR s from the die-hard, disgruntled BSB fans who can t take an ounce of criticism regarding their..

Backstreet Boys--Black and Blue--Two Good Colors

    Pros:
The Backstreet Boys show a wide variety of song styles and rhythms.

    Cons:
Hmm...having a hard time finding a problem right now.

Recently I have been running short on Epinions.com music "items" to review. So, its time to turn to the vaults! This time the selection has been made that the Backstreet Boys' CD "Black and Blue" will be reviewed. Trust me, you won't be black or blue, nor black and blue when we're finished. This CD is a great example of the Backstreet Boys' ability to sing. Let's hit the backstreet and set our cruise control to a slow thirty miles per hour and relax, shall we? Here we go.... The cover of the CD is as simple as saying that one half is black with blue-lettered words spelling "BLACK" while the...

Love Songs Galore! More Mature Music !
    Review created: 11/15/02
by: angelmists -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
Great Music, Wrote some songs for it too!

    Cons:
Not as Upbeat, More Love Songs, However I still love the CD!

The Backstreet s next album after Millennium was a hard act to follow. Millennium sold more than a million copies in its first week, breaking record sales records all over the place. Black and Blue is the more mature group albums. They aren't boys anymore; they are now all grown young men. They now have more creative control over their albums and have started writing songs on them. I think its great that they are finally getting their personal message out to the world. More power to them! I was kind of disappointed that there weren't more up beat songs on this one, but the love songs just...
