I saw the mixed reviews and was nervous about whether this would be the right vacuum for us. Our house is on the market so we really need a good dependable vacuum that does the job quickly. Consumer reports helped me make that choice. They have Bissell upright vacuums rated high on their scale for dependability and reliability. Overall the Bissell upright vacuum lines that were rated, rated highest on some of the important functions that were tested, some were rated better than Dyson. Although this one was not one they tested the number of positive reviews made this vacuum worth trying. We had a $460 Amway allergy vacuum before this and because that broke I needed to find one that did just as well to keep the peace in our home. This one is much better than what we had.
The power of suction on this Bissell is awesome! This picks up a lot of dust, dirt and animal hair very well from both carpet and hardwood floors! It is a bit heavy so with the brushes going it acts like it is self-propelled and takes a little muscle. It cleans quickly, when someone is coming by to look at the house on a moments notice. With the touch of a button to turn off the brushes we go from carpet to hardwood floors without stopping. The debris is picked up from the hardwood floors without blowing it around so I don't have to waist time chasing dirt. The micro ban feature also reduces my sneezing once I have gone over the floors. The turbo tool works awesome on our stairs but with the extension no more back bending like before. Also the extension cord is long enough to go from room to room without stopping.
I have allergies but I have tested many vacuums to find a canister vacuum that works well enough not to use a bag vacuum.I had to shake out the bundles of hair from other canister vacuums, this one is no different, however, it is by far the cleanest and easiest to empty. I have carpal tunnel and it is nice to not have to turn the canister over to dump and shake. The easy button open also reduces the amount of dust that is kicked up from dumping, the dust falls first and the pet fluffy dirt that doesn't dump as quickly takes just a few little shakes. I have had many Hoovers, Kirby, dirt devil, fantom, rainbow, Eureka and a few others I cannot remember the names to now, and this is by far the easiest to empty the canister for. The best I have experienced in cleaning stairs, the best in picking up bird down feathers, pet hair and dust that like to float and elude you and the quickest at doing its job. I don't think I have ever seen a vacuum by pure suction alone pick up a 6-inch piece of string from a foot away before so I am impressed. I have gone over the poor reviews for this vacuum and I would recommend that if people have those difficulties listed that the vacuum be returned. I do not think that those problems listed are the vacuum itself as much as they are that these people unfortunately got a lemon, which happens with any product. Even so, as I stated before Bissell rates higher on their reliability and dependability on Consumer Reports than many others.

Why did I choose this over a dyson? We have older carpets that are shag and our shag carpet fuzz ended up in the dyson vacuum cleaner. It screamed carpet replacement to me if I keep this up (That is more money on the house, no thanks). For that reason I would not recomend the dyson on older carpets. The suction on this is just as good without the damage to the carpets or the noise, and all of the att

i wanted this vaccum because it is supposed to pick up pollen and allergens off of the floor and out of the air. so far this vacuum does that i have not had breathing or allergy problems since buying this vacuum. vaccum is a little heavy but not unmanagable, but cleans the floors very well. i ran this vacuum after purchasing a brand new house and it picked up lots of dust and dirt from within the carpet. overall this is a good purchase at an ebay price of about $150, would not pay $220 in the stores for it

I read as much as I could about vacuums, most research surrounding the Dyson. After problems kept surfacing in that price range vacuum I decided to explore other vacuums. After the reviews the Bissell 5770 pros and cons were very clear. Reading some of the cons most complaining about empting the canister one person said empty it out the top, it works. Being a larger male I didn't think 26lbs. would be too much for me. I found the Bissell just as it was depicted in the reviews. I found it to be less noisy then most 12amp motors, it pushed smooth, I certainly didn't feel it was hard to push. I liked the lay out of the switches and really enjoy the brush switch. I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel so I have had good suction in that machine and the Bissell seems a little stronger. I like the light and a feature like on the top line Dyson's, the clear brush shield, you can see what your brush is doing or caught in, which I have managed to do. A quick flick of the brush switch and no extended damage. The carpet adjustment seems very sound and it does a nice job on carpet as well as bare floors as we have both. I was able to get a tremendous deal on mine and if I would have paid the money they want for the Dyson I would never forgiven myself if I would have then discovered the Bissell. I have not had the vacuum all that long, but I am very pleased as far as vaccums go. It also seems to do a good job on pet hair. OK the one dislike I have with the vacuum is the brush turns off automatically as it comes to the upright position. That spot can be achived when you bring the vacuum back from a stroke and the vacuum gets close to the upright position the brush will hit the cut off switch and turn off. As soon as you keep moving it turns back on. So it often boggs down on the back stroke. Other then that one flaw I like the Bissell 5770, but we are talking vacuums here so I don't want to go over the edge. I also leave a spelling disclaimer, I can't spell to save my life.

We bought this vac about six months ago and just love it. We also have a Hoover Windtunnel and the Bissell out performs it by a long shot. It also comes with a powder and spray for killing dust mites.

This is a very good vacuum that has only a couple of minor flaws. The first actually goes with all bagless types. You need a place outside to empty the canister. The vacuum is so powerfull and efficient that you get very, very tiny dust particles by the pound, so this is more pronounced. The only other issue is the weight of the vacuum. If you have a big staircase, you should have another vacuum for upstairs. Other than that it is great, with well put together parts and ease of opperation. The roller even has an on/off switch at the top of the handle and an auto off feature to protect your floor when the handle is in the vertical, resting, position. It has clear hose for finding clogs and nice rubber coated wheels. Tons of adjustment for different height carpet and such. This would be a good deal at $200 retail, so find one from someone that can not deal with the weight for a wonderful deal. Enjoy.

I love everything about this vacuum cleaner. The fact that it is bagless, the fact that it has a Heppa filter....The suction power is the most powerful vacuum one can use in the home. I use the attatchments everytime I use it.....I have a lot of hardwood floors,(and cat hair!) and it is great for going around the perimeter of every room.
I saw this advertised on TV, and I immediately went to EBAY to see if I could find one. I was thrilled!!

Poorly designed. Do not buy this if you have any hair to deal with (people or pet). In less than 6 mos. the brushroll melted because hair got under the ends. What is even worse, is that no one sells them (the brushrolls)! Not even the company, they told me I had to take my machine to a warranty center and pay them to replace it (not covered under warranty). The closest warranty center is about 60 miles away. Buyer beware.

This vacuum is very powerful and picks up everything. Works on hardwood, laminates and carpeting, linoleum, tile, picks up everything. Has long extension to clean hard to reach areas such as ceiling fans, tops of doors, curtains, blinds, etc. The turbo brush is awesome, great suction, great for vacumming beds to get rid of dust mites and for your upholstered furniture and for cleaning stairs. The only down side of it is that it is very heavy and hard to manuever and carry up and downstairs. Other than that no complaints. I would recommend this vacuum very highly!

  Solid Vacuum for Good Value
Review created: 05/04/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have been using my Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum for about a month or two now. It is a very solid vacuum and performs well. Seems to have strong suction and does a good job cleaning my carpet. Also adjusts quickly for hard floors which is nice since we have a mix of both.

As another review said it is a bit heavy if that is an issue for you but doesn't bother me. The only negatives so far I have seen is that fact that is has limited attachments for vacuuming smaller things. The power hand tool (Turbo brush) is nice but can pick or damage more delicate things so it would be nice to have another one without the spinning head on it. The other suggestion I would have for Bissell is the shape of the container you have to empty out is coned down at the bottom so is a pain to get stuff out of sometimes when its full. Neither one would prevent me from buying the vacuum again but just suggestions. Other than that a great value.

I am more impressed with the performance of this vacuum than the yellow dyson we borrowed from our friends to try out when deciding between the two. I am happy with my purchase not to mention the $300 still in my bank account after not purchasing the dyson.

  Best Purchase !!!

We LOVE this item !!! It's a little heavy, but it's the only flaw... if you would even call it that. The suction power is way better than anything we've had before, and we've never purchased cheap cleaners. I debated for a good month or so between this and a dyson and after reading what seemed like thousands of reviews, this was clearly the better purchase. I actually read a few from people that purchased dysons first and returned them to purchase this model. Having a toddler and a dog, this helps with the continual mess that the two of them produce together. We loved it so much, we purchased an additional one for the 2nd story of our home !!!

  Bissell Healthy Home Model 5770
Review created: 02/23/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Just received the new Bissell 5770. Did the usual experiment by using my previous vacuum, an 8 year old Fantom Fury, to vacuum the entire house.
As expected after reading all the reviews, the Bissel was more powerful, effective and expensive. The Fantom was state of the art 8 years ago, and I had no complaints at all with it, but just wanted to update with a more modern and hopefully powerful unit. The Bissel filled the bill. It is a mite heavier than the Fantom but I find that an asset as it holds the vacuum closer to the carpet. I did notice one thing right away, and that was the suction actually picked up throw rugs off the floor. Obviously more suction. The machine is more quiet than the Fantom and 3" wider in the brush so it dosen't take quite as long to do the same area. Tried out the power brush on the couch and chair cushions and was surprised and revolted at the dust/dirt that came out of them. To get a fair result, I started with a completely empty canister to avoid confusing any dirt that could have come from the carpet. You will be surprised at the stuff that it pulls out of supposedly clean furniture cushions.
Am real happy with this new Bissell and expect it will provide many years service with very little maintenence needed on my part.

I purchased this unit on ebay as a factory refurbished item at a great price. Glad I did. There was no need to pay retail. It's not lightweight. With all the attachments on the unit it is somewhat heavy to lift. This Bissell really vacuums well. Edge cleaning isn't the best but good enough. Either my home is really filthy or I just have to get accustomed to emptying the dust and dirt 3-4 times if I vacuum the whole house. Emptying the basket is a snap, literally. It's true, it cleans better than my old vacuum. I vacuumed a room rug with my old vacuum, then used the Bissell. I was amazed how much dirt it pulled from the same area I just vacuumed that appeared clean. The hand held attachments work quite well and the long cord allows me to clean a huge area before having to move the wall connection. Overall I give this unit a B+ and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another product from this Bissell.

I have had this vacuum for a couple months now and am going to return it. I have kids with allergies/eczema and it sounded like a dream come true. But there are just too many things I don't like about it to justify the price I paid. It's top heavy and falls over easily. My toddler has pulled it down a couple times. It's that easy to fall over. The cord is WAY too long and gets in the way. The holes DO get clogged with dirt. It's horrible at edge cleaning. I have never been a fan of bagless vacuums and this just confirms my feelings. It's not easy to clean out. The brush stops rolling when you raise the handle.
I will say the best thing about it is the power. I will be returning it and going back to bags.

Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Vacuum & Budget Vacuum is # 1
Review created: 04/20/09
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Bissel 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum is superior to any other vacuum that I have owned for the last 47 years of my life. It's performance is equal to any of the Dyson models at half to one third of the price. I knew that my carpet was dirty, but before I could get less than 3 square feet vacuumed the container was full. My carpet space is about 25 square feet; after my first vacuuming the machine had pulled out over 10 gallons of dirt. The machine continues to extract unbelievable amounts of dirt with each use. The generous length of the power cord saves me the hassle of moving from one outlet to another to complete my cleaning requirements. The hose is of such a high quality like I've never seen provided with a vacuum before. The power brush works wonders on curtains, furniture, and any tight spot that the main brushes can not reach; the power brush also zaps up dog hair leaving no sign of hair ever being there. The duel power buttons lets one shut off the main brush while useing the hose attachments; one no longer has to worry about chewing up the carpet while opperating in the upright position. There are absolutely no oders or dust emmitted while useing this amazing machine. The macine is a little heavy, but it handles remarkably easy. The only complaint that I have about this machine is the regular brush attachment is angled wrong for most uses; Bissel should include two regular brush attachments angled differently, but they do offer to sell you other attachments seperately. Unless money is no object, one would be foolish to pass up this machine if you're a clean freak like me seriously looking for the best. I truly believe that there is no one offering these wonder machines any cheaper than BudgetVacuum.com; include fast service, and free shipping to the reasons why BudgetVacuum ROCKS!

What a good job of cleaning my carpets. I am senior with an artificial hip. With the numerous carpet height settings it is very easy to manipulate around the rooms. The furniture turbo brush is a real plus. I really like the long power cord and the longer hose than my last vacuum cleaner. All is at one's figure tips and I would recommend this machine and the seller I used.

Bissell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Cyclonic Vacuum

This thing SUCKS ROYALLY. The suction is unbelievable even with the hand power brush. I love it. Easy to use including the hand tools (just place vacuum in vertical position, disconnect hose, attach any tool and you're good to go). Insanely easy to empty (with the push of a button). The Bissell is a little on the heavy side but I'm a 40yr male so no problems there. Also, when you empty the cup a lot of lite dust particles kick up so special care needed for that task ( I empty mine in the garbage in the garage). 5yr warranty, not to mention Consumer Reports listed it as the 2nd best bagless vacuum. I got mine on sale for around $200 on Ebay. They have refurbished ones (1yr warranty) for around $120 on Ebay. Highly recommended unless you would have difficulty carrying the Bissell up/down stairs.

This is an awesome machine !!! HIGH PERFORMANCE
Review created: 12/10/09
by:

I have terrible luck with vacuum cleaners ... I have not owned the famous "DYSON", but have wanted one for years ... it's cost prohibitive for me, however.
I have owned two fantoms, kenmore, and so many others - ranging from $100 to $300, none of which have lasted more than 2 years ... On Thanksgiving Day, I went to vacuum my downstairs - and suddenly, the only vacuum I own, is no longer working ...

After doing some research, I found this vacuum has all of the features of the DYSON that I find so appealing, and MORE - it even has a 5 year warranty - like the DYSON ... it has 9 cyclonic chambers ... it's bagless; This vacuum retails around $350...and would be worth every penny, if that's what I'd paid for it... It is amazing - the suction and motorized roller brush are awesome on this unit. The upholstery attachment even has a motorized brush on it! My carpets "came to life" after using this vacuum ... I couldn't be more pleased ! I recommend this unit to anyone who wants high performance, at a price point that is much more affordable than DYSON ... This is a heavier vacuum than what I am used to - but the long hose and attachments, make this one less attractive aspect of the machine, very easy to overcome. You do need to have upper body strength to handle this machine.
