So easy to get swept into Ms. Dunant's world of art, religion, and love. This book was written with passion and presents a visit into a historical world otherwise unknown.

I purcased this book for my discussion group read. I buy my books so I can have them as reference. Library is cheaper, but I read ahead so much by the time I get to the group discussion I've forgotten what I read. Purchasing from ebay is the best way to get my books. They are usually in excellent condition and I like hardcovers.

Great book portraying history from a different view!

This book was captivating from beginning to end. I was fascinated by the twists and turns that Dunant placed in front of me every other chapter. An excellent read for anyone into art or history mixed with a little bit of romance. Also a very feminine book, Dunant does a great job of describing the rebellious female pysche of the late 15th century. I absolutely could NOT put this book down - it's a heart-wrenching tale from beginning to end.

  Renaissance Florence Italy

This is undoubtedly the best book I have read in ages....Dunant's research of the period is amazing....I was kept enthralled by the plot and hated to put the book down for sleep....

Like Ms. Dunant's, In The Company of a Courtesan, this is better than GWTW and the recent movie filmed in Venice, Casanova...the period color, history, make this story like you are there seeing what the heroine sees, one can almost hear the swish of her silk skirts....smell the perfume in her garden and the stench of the Florentine streets

This book has it all, makes one anticipate the next book by this author...not a silly soap or inane girl on the moors, throbbing member writer she......

  Excellent Florentine Culture/Art Historical Fiction

Florence in the 15th Century. A girl named Alessandra is tired of being too young and of the "wrong" sex. She dreams of being a painter and on her own but women in those times were not thought of for anything but keeping house and raising children. History aids in speeding her growing up. War is coming and girls are in danger. So a marriage is arranged with a much older man. Things are not what they seem and although Alessandra's husband allows here evry freedom she wanted she is still not content.

Beautifully written, fast paced, exciting period in the history of Florence. Will keep you up at night trying to read one more chapter.
Highly recommended, especially if you are interested in art and history - will not disappoint!
