Overall a rather weak field guide with nice color plates, but the bird illustrations are much too small and it has a separate map section with tiny distribution maps which are very hard to see. Also, a bizarre key to status by shading on maps which is a pain to decipher. Size is very small, with very little room for text, and I suppose the above comes as a the trade-off for portability.

An excellent Panamerican bird book
) This book is comprehensive. I had formerly purchased some more localized regional field guides and find out only after our trip, when several birds remained unidentified, that they did not list or show all possible species. This book has been extraordinarily helpful.
We have been to two Central American countries, and Mexico as well, and every bird I've sought to identify has eventually been found in this book.
