England. No longer a green and pleasant land.

I think that too many Americans have a slanted view of Great Britain from watching TV shows. From the essentic charatures of Benny Hill and Monty Python's Flying Circus and Absolutly Fabulous and Keeping up Apperences. It's easy to think that the whole country is just full of quirky essentric folk living carefree existances.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This TV series brings you back down to reality with a thud. It is very well written giving a wide range of social issues, with a equally wide range of reactions. The ending were not always predictable, and gave room for thought and discussion after viewing. The quality of some of the acting was sometimes less than convincing. But they always gave the impression that they were trying their best. A bit 'Corranation Street' or 'East Enders' at times. (two long running British soaps). But as a fan of British Television drama writting skills. This series satisfied completly. The ridicilously low price for the full first season of the series, didn't cloud my view of it. For I'm not trying just to collect as many cheap DVD's as possible. Viewing this DVD series may make you rethink your opinion of England from the land of 'The Saint, The man from UNCLE, James Bond, Danger Man and The Avengers', to more of a troubled disturbed Western culture in a declining post war, post empire society. In otherwords 'Accurate'.
