Synopsis Vera Perl is a frazzled, intellectual, earnestly feminist single mother living in Brooklyn, with a hippie husband who comes and goes and a preteen daughter who needs watching. Vera writes stories about Bigfoot and Elvis for a sleazy supermarket tabloid--a job she is fired from when one of the absurd tales she has invented seems to be coming true, and the subject sues the paper. And Vera, freed from bondage, heads for the Grand Canyon and an encounter with Bigfoot himself.

Industry Reviews "Once one starts a novel by Prose, it is almost impossible not to pay attention. Her first lines are finely caught, not to be released until her final narrative fling." New York Times Book Review - Susan Allen Toth (01/01/1986)
