Big Sexyland by Revolting Cocks (CD, Mar-1993, Wax Trax! Records USA)

What can you say about the Revolting Cocks? This is their first full-length recording and it is the best RevCo album, in my opinion, ever! The standout tracks on this CD/LP are: No Devotion, 38, and if you have the CD release or re-release, The both Versions of "You often Forget," and the 12" version of, "No Devotion." Which is their actual first release. The other Revco LP and related singles in 1989-1990 are, "Beers, Steers & Qveers." after that Al J. and co had a slight falling out over a drug possession deal at the RevCo Ranch near Austin, TX. The last 1990's release was," Linger Ficken' Good (and other Barnyard oddities,") was not to bad, despite the strained relationships between the members of the group. Al has a way of ticking people off. They would never re-capture the Magic on "Cocked & Loaded," 2006. Different line-up and different song structures, make it sound like any of the radio friendly nu-metal/rock crap. If anybody has recently discovered Ministry, my advice is this; seek out the early Al & Co. projects. The projects: 1000 Homo Dj's, AcidHorse,Lard,Pailhead,Chris Connelly-wax trax! solo stuff, and Lead into Gold-Paul Barker solo. That way, you can get a feel of where the real magic is and was. Al seemed to have a dense and very subversive sense of humor back in the day. Today, the sense of humor is pretty much lost. What can you say after 13+ years of Heroin addiction? Though now, he has cleaned up, sans the wine bit. Note: Stay away from Ministry-the Arista years! Weak and wussy are the best words to describe why ol Uncle Al is embarassed. If anything, start with Twitch(Ministry 85-86 Sire,) and/or Big Sexy Land, You Goddamned Son of a Bitch:LIVE! (both Revolting Cocks.) It won't be hard to find the early RevCo stuff, since the former catalogue was re-issued with extra trax last year. --John W.
