Stunning Reconstruction of the 1980 version

I like the fast action from beginning to end. From the landing in north Africa, Italy, and Normandy each attack has its special relationships develop and some are destroyed. A powerful film that stays on track for a powerful ending with the release of the condemmed in concentrations camps. Not for the weak of stomach. Some may find parts objectionable with the frank army talk but it seem appropriate here. The color and sound were redone(as shown in the commentary) in the 2005 remake plus 50 minutes of missing footage was added to make the move feel more complete. The commentary include add greatly to the experience when finished viewing the film. A must see for WWII buffs like me.

Not As Exciting As The Title Sounds

Although I love war epics and extended editions, this one just drags on and on with nothing too interesting happening. I still can't get past Mark Hamill’s role in Star Wars for his character to even begin to be believable, and he should definitely not be in this movie. The end was kind of a let down and just kind of ended abruptly, but comprehensible. This film does however cover almost all U.S. campaigns from Africa to Europe which is cool, but what are the chances of this. I would recommend watching the original release rather than the reconstructed, and if you have to see this you should rent it first, and save yourself time and money.

RATING: 3 / 5 STARS

Recommended War Films:
Downfall (A movie covering the last days and downfall of Nazi Germany) 5/5
Saving Private Ryan (I don't think I need to say anything) 5/5
Apocalypse Now Redux (In my opinion the best Vietnam war film ever made) 5/5
WWII Battle Front (A History Channel Documentary) 5/5
