Better than Average Representation of this Music
Enoch Light (thats his name) does a decent job with these mostly jazz standards. If you are new to this kind of music then I would recommend this compilation as a starter course in learning the standards. The sound quality is much better than the older originals although the originals are generally better just because they are the source. The bands here do a great rendition of Woody Herman's "Woodchoppers Ball", also Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" is done quite nicely. Tommy Dorsey's "Song of India" sounds much like the original but better fidelity of course. Enoch made sure that all the instruments are clearly heard and recorded with the right mike techniques. Some of the musicians on this CD are the original members of their respective bands. All in all not a bad representation of this genre.
