Buy For the Film But Not the Extras
As for the movie itself, there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. This is one of my favorite films of all time. People call Russ Meyer a schlock artist and/or a pervert, and talk about his movies being "so bad they're good," but that's all a crock. He was a gifted film-maker who edited film in way that no one ever had before, who told a story in a way no one ever had before, who was a master at pacing, characters . . . And this is one of his masterpieces. As for the extras, I was somewhat disappointed. Hearing the actors argue and reminisce over the film was enjoyable for a while, but got old quickly. Roger Ebert's commentary was too dry to follow. The screen tests footage was fun, but not all that great. My feeling is that if you're buying this for the extras, don't. But of course if you're buying it for the film, go for it.
