Movie star Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) had it all--until he made a few bad films and his wife left him. Now, the washed up star is slated to play Darrin in a remake of the 1960s sitcom about a mortal man who unknowingly marries a beautiful, good-hearted witch. Determined to resuscitate his career, Jack and his agent, Richie (Jason Schwartzman), demand that an unknown be cast as the witch, Samantha, in order to maximize his screen time and star power. After an exhaustive search for the right actress--and the perfect nose wiggle--Jack spots Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman) in a book store and is convinced that she can be the new Samantha. And right he is; Isabel really is a witch who is determined to try life--and hopefully love--without magic, much to the chagrin of her debonair warlock father, Nigel (Michael Caine). Immediately drawn to Jack, Isabel follows her heart and takes the role only to discover that he has no plan to share the spotlight with her, and can also be a big jerk. Can Isabel refrain from using magic to put Jack in his place and win his love? And how will Jack react when he learns Isabel's secret? More interesting than a standard remake, the screenplay by Ephron and her sister Delia nicely weaves in the characters and basic plot of the original television series while developing a completely new story and characters. Shirley MacLaine stars as a legendary actress who plays Samantha's mother, Endora, in the new television show--and just may have a few secrets of her own. Steve Carell has an amusing turn as Uncle Arthur, a character originally played by comedian Paul Lynde.

This is a decent movie made Better by Ferrell and Kidman The first time I watched Bewitched I didn't like it. But being a night owl, this movie is on all the time. I ended up watching it a couple times and really started seeing the positive side. Don't expect anything incredible, just come into the film with an open mind and you'll enjoy it. This isn't Will Ferrells best work but it belongs in any Will Ferrell fans collection. Final Verdict: 3/5 Rent or Buy?: Unless you're a huge Will Ferrell fan you'll do just fine renting this movie. Just remember- don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Review ID: 10000000002376562 Was this review helpful? Bewitched had the billings for major movie success - Great name (hey its Bewitched right?!), great cast (Ferrell, Kidman, MacLaine, Caine - not bad!), good producing team, etc. But the movie was so-so - and I say that because I'm a diehard Will Ferrell fan... otherwise, I'd say it was worse! But while Will Ferrell provided lots of laughs and was quite good - there was no chemistry between him and Nicole Kidman... and I blame Nicole. She had no emotion throughout the movie and didn't show a moment of excitment or energy - in fact, I'd say she realized Tom Cruise earned the money and without him ... well she needs a check! I was surprised by her lack of energy and it sank the movie. Too bad because I expected much better! Bewitched Cast Nicole Kidman .... Isabel Bigelow/Samantha Will Ferrell .... The first 20 minutes of this film were mildly entertaining. The rest of the film was mind-numbingly horrid. Will Farrel was over-the-top (as usual) and Nicole Kidman got really tiresome with her Marilyn Monroe imitation voice. She is nice to look at, though. Michael Caine and Shirley McClaine were wasted in this Hollywood drivel. Nora Ephron, the director, had a wonderful soundtrack and absolutely no sense of direction or what constitutes a good story. This movie stunk. Not just a little bit. Really, really bad. Don't buy this film, don't even rent it. Just walk away quickly. I wish I had. Review ID: 10000000000046295 Was this review helpful? I don't know why it's only getting an Average review because I thought it was really cute and really funny. Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrel both did a great job and really got into the characters. I loved it! Review ID: 10000000001995634 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 11/01/05 by: 4 of 9 people found this review helpful. Hilarious comedy starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. Had me rolling on the floor though it just may be I was in a good mood for this comedy. Will Ferrell is getting funnier with each new role, by the way I think this is his 100th film this year... LOL. Review ID: 10000000000049108 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
