Publisher's Note

Betty Crocker’s classic cookbook for children is back–in an authentic reproduction of the original 1957 edition

A whole generation of Baby Boomers grew up with Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls, and they have helped to make it the one of the most requested titles in the Betty Crocker archives. Now back by popular demand, this timeless favorite stands ready to capture the hearts of a new generation of budding cooks. Packed with recipes that are just as popular with kids today as they were 45 years ago, it shows how to make everything from Ice Cream Cone Cakes and Pigs in Blankets to Cheese Dreams and Sloppy Joes. The small format, easy recipes, charming color illustrations and photographs, and even the cover, are all the same as they were in the 1957 edition–and just as delightful as ever. The only innovation is the concealed wire binding that lies flat for easy cooking while being sturdy enough to withstand energetic handling by kids in the kitchen. It’s the ideal book to give or to keep, for retro appeal, and for getting today’s kids started in the kitchen.

I bought this cook book because this is a version of the same one I had as a child. It has excellent recipes and brings back memories of a simpler time. The recipes are easy to read and follow and the illustrations are wonderful. It is in a spiral format so the pages turn easily and wont rip. This is a great cookbook for yourself or one to share with your children and grandchildren!

BETTY CROCKER'S ~A GOOD VINTAGE COOKBOOK FOR CHILDREN

‘Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls’, is quite a good vintage cookbook that still has endearing recipes for children today. Originally published in the 1950's and reprinted in the 1960’s and 1970’s, the book includes instructions for basic cooking techniques, measuring, and utensils as well as a selection of recipes in the categories of campfire cooking, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and extra special occasions. The instructions and recipes are basic enough for children to be able to make themselves, with very creative and attractive results. The recipes include mostly common ingredients and there are many illustrations throughout the book to offer creative ideas for making meals, as well as party and display ideas, made from very simple household materials also. There are pages of photographs of many of the finished recipes including, cookies with faces, holiday cakes, long john silver sandwiches, raggedy Ann salad, potato boats and pigs in blankets.

    Some of the recipes include:

    *Drum Cake
    *Extra Special Drinks
    *Paintbrush Cookies
    *Zoo Cake
    *Heart Cake
    *Easter Hat Cake
    *Eskimo Igloo Cake
    *Clown Cup Cakes
    *Ice Cream Cone Cakes
    *Good Kid Cookies
    *Kabobs
    *Doughboys
    *Eggs in a Frame
