The Betrayal Bond by Patrick J. Carnes Ph.D. (1997, Paperback)

I bought this book several months ago and I have read it three times!

I decided to buy it as I tried to understand what some people stay in relationships that are not healthy. Let me say it really hit home and made me understand, that in my own relationship, I was waiting for a change that was probably never going to happen. In other words, if you are stuck, it gives thought provoking reasons on why it is time to wake up and move on, or stay and keep working on the relationship you have.

This can be a bond in any type of a relationship, not just a marriage.

I would especially recommend this book to those readers who have been in a relationship that has been damaged by an affair or an addiction. This book helps you to realize what effect staying in this type of situation can have on your family. It also gives you options on how to deal with such relationships.
The book helps empower those who need a little push to really look at their individual situation.

I knew I loved the book because I had underlined so many paragraphs and turned down the edges of many pages. It reminds you to take care of you!

A super book by a well known author!

Ugh! This book is like a private and deeply personal therapy session. Read it and weep. Be cleansed and delivered from the insanity. It's great to read a clear explanation of such a counter-intuitive process as finding yourself unable to leave a person, situation or (religious) institution that destroys your soul.

This is a great book for anyone trying to understand the dynamics of growing up in a dysfunctional family. To get the most benefit from it, you have to do the exercises. Even without that, the knowledge provided is well worth it.

A rare, insightful aproach for men regarding chaotic relationships. It is a prevalent problem among men of all kinds of professions to come home to a demanding, conniving woman. These "nice guy" men, who are able to be assertive in their workplaces become wimps to these women. As a mental health counselor, I have had clients who feel as if the book described their situation perfectly.
