The Best of the Uncle Floyd Show (DVD, 2004)

I watched the Uncle Floyd show for years on local television, and seeing this DVD brought back great memories. This DVD is worth the price, and even though the humor is somewhat corny, the reactions from the group behind the scenes is priceless. I would recomend it to all Uncle Floyd fans, and anyone who has a crazy sense of humor. 5 stars in my book.

Uncle Floyd Shows are more what television needs to be, and sadly what is is sorely missing today.
They are real....., and most of all really funny!

Unrehearsed and unscripted mayhem. Made me feel a sense of nostalgia for those Jersey nights. As for the "Best of" description, there could be some debate over that. A lot of really good material was omitted.

The quality of the dvd is great. I love to watch him play the piano. He is a gifted musician. I bought it for that reason. He is also very funny. The price was very reasonable. He is not on TV anymore, at least not in my area. Thanks, JL>

Were we more easliy amused back then or high??? Sadly the material does not hold up well today. Over 50% of the highlights are extremely boring. The best parts are Uncle Floyd and Oogie stints, some are true classics as the Frog getting a loan joke. The other charecter skits are extemely not funny and I guess talking with an accent was funny then. It would of been better to have the best of Floyd when he hosted local rock acts.

This show was cornball, goofy, groan inducing, but sometimes hilarious. And with occasional walk-ons from Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Joey Ramone it was a no budget cult favorite back in the late 70's early 80's. However, this collection has none of the walk-ons, few highlights and too many super groaners. It was only mildy interesting to this avid fan.

I remembered the show from my high school days, but I guess I wasn't a very discerning television viewer back then. The DVD apparently showcases the best of the latenight TV talk/comedy/variety show, but it was truly painful to sit through as an adult. Actually, my kids (16, 13, and 9) begged me to turn it off because it was giving them headaches. Sure, times were different back then, and the show was very campy and unsophistocated, but that wasn't the problem. The agonizing aspect of the show was that the worst bits were ridiculously long, while the cute, timeless segments, or those that commented on the culture or politics of the day flew by before anyone could pick up on their cleverness. Oh well, I guess you can't go home again...
