Not a bad book, but not the best either. I would say I am about 70% satisfied with it. (maybe because I am not satisfied with the plants available to me for my area, not the authors fault I guess.) It has 267 pages, or 235 pages not including the appendices. Lots of pictures all in color which help you decide if you like the look of the tree, flower or shrub you may choose to plant.

The book is broken down into four sections.

SECTION ONE(about 12 pages): Background to landscape plantings for New Mexico, Southern Colorado and El Paso Texas.

Small sections which details watering, soil, elevation, winds, native plants and topography.

SECTION TWO(about 17 pages): Tips for New Mexico Gardening and Landscapes.

Plant selection, such as color, height, texture, scent, etc.. Notes on vegetables. Pruning trees and shrubs

Eleven precepts of landscape design with an emphasis on NM conditions.

Best Trees, shrubs, hedge and windbreak plants, best evergreen, ground covers, shade plants, all-star Native plants.

SECTION THREE(about 85 pages): The New Mexico plant file.

Details the best plants for New Mexico, described as native, naturalized or exotic plants. Describes best trees, shrubs, ground covers, grasses, vines and flowers(annual, perennials and bulbs) and where they grow best.

SECTION FOUR(about 132 pages): City and Town Plant Recommendation and Notes

Breaks down the best plants for your area by cities in New Mexico, Southern Colorado or El Paso, Texas. ( cities included: Alamogordo, ALbuqueque, Artesia, Carlsbad, Chama, Clayton, Cloves, Cortez CO, Deming, Durango CO, El Paso TX, Estancia, Farmington, Ft. Sumner, Gallup and Grants, Hobbs, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Lordsburg, Pagosa Springs CO, Portales, Raton, Roswell, Ruidoso, Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, Silver City, Socorro, Taos, Trinidad CO, T or C, and Tucumcari.

Any questions, please ask.
