If your a fan of guitar or a player, this collection is a must have. Hear the master at work. Lots of material- not the polished finished work of Hendrix's studio releases, this box set has outtakes, jams and live material that gives a great overview of a master guitarist and creator at work. It is presented in a generally chronological format so you can follow the development of Hendrix' music through his 3 1/2 year recording career. Start off with the 3 studio works, Are You Experienced, Axis Bold as Love and Electic Ladyland and then get your hands on this box set.

This box set proves there's so much more to Hendrix than the 3 or 4 tunes they wore out on the radio over the last 30 years. I hesitated at first to buy this set, I've never been a big fan of Jimi Hendrix. I do like the song "Hey Joe" and his version of the Star Spangled Banner so I took a chance. I'm damn glad I did! I guess I'm a Hendrix fan now.

Excellent box set of JIMI HENDRIX
) If you are a big HENDRIX fan this box set is for you. It was cool to hear the studio outtakes of some of his biggest hits. I highly recomend it.

Think of this as sort of an anthology. There are alternate tracks as well as a "history book o' Hendrix" that comes along with it. The new versions are great and it stands as a reminder of just how ahead of his time Hendrix was. I'm sure he had no idea (at the time) that he would be able to lay claim to being a forefather of the fusing of jazz and blues and rock and has as much of a right to that claim as Miles Davis (who just happened to LOVE Hendrix)does. The hardcore rock fans will ove this, the blues fans will dig it and the fans of fusion (Mahavishnu Orchestra; Return to Forever etc) can also find things to love about this collection.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience (purple velvet cd boxset)
) What else can anyone say about a person who self taught his skills as a prolific guitarist?? It amazes me all the time when I watch the Woodstock DVD--to see Jimi's every finger movement play, every facial gesture and just in general as it just seems all natural with him. As I listen to boxset, I close my eyes and can actually feel the vibrations and see him really get down with those groovy tunes! A great boxset collection!

This is a very good collection of rare arrangements of some old favorites.
It does lack some of Jimi's other famous tunes but for a fan of his or this era of music it is a good box set to own.
