Album Notes Although not as influential or well known as other British blues-metal acts of the late '60s such as Cream and Led Zeppelin, Free helped to shape the genre. Neither as metallic in sound nor mystical in approach as Zeppelin, Free's success was based on its combination of singer Paul Rodger's soulful voice, Andy Fraser's unique bass riffing, Paul Kossoff's wailing leads, and Simon Kirke's heavy yet spare drumming. 1988's BEST OF FREE features 12 standouts from the band's studio albums, including its strutting radio hit "All Right Now." Other rockers, such as "The Hunter," "I'm a Mover," "Stealer," and "Fire and Water," show that the band was, at its best, capable of greatness.
