Album Notes Digitally remastered by Wally Traugott (Capitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California). Personnel: Billy Squier (vocals, guitar). Unknown Contributor Role: Kim Niemi. When Led Zeppelin abruptly called it quits in 1980, legions of rockers attempted to fill the gaping hole with their own heavily Zep-influenced rock for the remainder of the decade. One of the most successful was Billy Squier, who combined rich guitar riffs that recalled Jimmy Page, a mammoth drum sound a la John Bonham, and a sex drenched stage persona (although Robert Plant could scream circles around him). This combination scored him several major hits in the early-mid 1980s. BEST OF: 16 STROKES contains all of Squier's best known songs. Most of these ("The Stroke," "In the Dark," "My Kinda Lover," "Everybody Wants You," and "Rock Me Tonite" are of the arena rock sort. With most of Squier's albums currently out of print, BEST OF: 16 STROKES is a fine overview.
