This is a wonderful cookbook. The cookbook is not only good for its recipes, but also for all of the research the author put into it. I was impressed that she spent a lot of time with the Amish community just talking to them about their traditions about food and it's preparations. She not only includes their recipes, but also their stories and fondest memories. Not only is this a good cookbook, but I found myself "reading" the cookbook from cover to cover before preparing any of the dishes...it's that good. The author also gives a background about the Amish community at the beginning of the book so you have a better understanding of how and why the recipes came about. I would recommend this cookbook to anyone. The only thing I would recommend in purchasing this is that you purchase a copy with a spiral bound so that it can lay flat on the counter while preparing dishes. The recipes are unpretentious and I'm sure will become staples in your home as they will be in mine!!!
