Quality Monitor and Style Points as a Bonus

being in the design/graphics world I have been very reluctant to give up my crt monitor (color fidelity, viewing angle, etc) but after I moved recently my 24" Sony Trinitron crt gave up the ghost and I was forced to search for a replacement(it weighs over 100lbs and I am convinced the movers droped it -but I digress).
I researched how far the lcd technology has progressed since I last purchased a monitor and was encouraged enough by the current specs that I seriously started looking for a lcd replacement -but in a hurry since I was now monitorless.
The IPS technology is what sold me on the idea of a lcd replacement for my color balanced crt. What stopped me in my tracks when I started pricing them was the price WHOA!
What I knew from online research was that the TN panels were not going to work for my needs so i settled on the middle ground (price/performance ratio) VA panels. doing a search for these panels is what led me to the BENQ monitor.
Of the several monitors on my short list, the BENQ stood out due to it's unique design (I am a design professional and DESIGN MATTERS!) so I took the plunge and purchased this monitor.
I am very happy with it so far -about a month. I was a little concerned about the lack of vertical adjustability of the monitor that some have complained about but I have no problems at all with that. Brightness, color depth and contrast are all excellent. Color accuracy is good out of the box but I haven't had time yet to fully calibrate. 8 point text is very crisp and readable. There are lots of menu options for tuning the screen for optimal veiwing (I won't detail them here as the options are widely available online). Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.
