Hogan Apex Irons

When I first began playing 40 years ago, the pro I knew suggested Apex Irons for my first set. I played with them for 8 years until they wore out. I then moved to "game improvement irons" such as Ram Accubar and Ping I5, and everything in between by Calloway, Taylor, well you get the idea, all sandwiched around a set of Apex II that I gave up at an auction. The other manufacturers all had good clubs, but they helped reinforce bad habits in my game. I didn't have to focus on shots, because mishits were "rewarded". My game and scoring suffered as a result. When I analyzed my game, the weak spot was in my iron play, which had never been the case with the Apex Irons I had played with. I do not hit as far as I once did (I hit a 7 iron 150-155 yds. now), but I longed for the consistency I once had with my iron play. I have searched for a decent set of Apex Irons, with reviews boasting the redline model as the easiest Apex blades to play. Ebay is the ONLY place to look for decent used Apex Irons. I have only hit 2 rounds with these clubs (I did regrip with Winn Excel grips), but the improvement to the mental game focus, along with the ease that these clubs line up on the ball, and the balance feel of the swing is lowering my scores. I am 55 years old, and am back to a single digit handicap that I had not had in 20 years. These are not pro-only clubs, but actually can help anyone improve their game, as much mentally as physically. There never has been a manufacturer that could compare to the older Hogan Apex blades in feel. The newer models since Hogan golf was absorbed, I am totally unfamiliar with, but once you have owned an older set of Apex blades for a while, nothing else will satisfy you swing, or your brain.
