For the price you would be hard pressed to find a progressive blade like the quality in these. Not for the high index players, as miss hits are rewarded with errant ball flight (as is with many blades) A favorite of mid index golfers looking to break ground on controlling flight and trajectory. After 500 + they wear well.

  YOU CAN'T BEAT BLADES

I have played blades for the last 15yrs. and have 4 sets of Hogan's. They are for the lower handicap player but can be hit with ease with some practice. You can work the ball with these irons and when hit on the sweet spot you can launch some pin seeking bullets.

The seller did never send the item. I filed a claim at paypal and recieved ALMOST all the money back, but I lost $ 25 on this scam. 3 other buyers also experienced the same. I will never again trad with 0 feedback ebayers. The worst is that I can not remove the negative feedback this seller gave me. The negative feedback is also the last I heard from him/her.

The Ben Hogan Apex 98 model!
Review created: 01/18/08
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This model was manufactured by the Ben Hogan company from 98 - 02, and are commonly referred to as Apex 98s. This is one of THE best models ever forged by the storied and illustrious Ben Hogan Golf Company. Aside from the '03 model, referred to as Apex 50s, they are the last model forged in Ft. Worth Tx, PRE the buyout by the callaway golf company.

Forged with 1025 SOFT carbon steel, they are in fact softer than the popular Mizuno MP models, Titleist 695MB,680,670,660 models and the Nike Blade offerings. If you are a skilled player, and demand premium feel and performance from your irons, these are an EXCELLENT choice! The Ben Hogan golf Company website has information and specs of ALL their irons ever produced. You can browse and have all of your questions answered there.

Hogan Apex 4 "red line" irons
Review created: 12/27/06

Originally bought an incomplete set at a garage sale to hit at the range since they had the grooves worn, chrome eroded and sweet spot hollowed out. At the range I found I hit these worn clubs better than the irons I normally carried! Was inspired to get a better and complete set and was fortunate to win one off e-bay and they are sweet. A good swing produces a "pure" shot that goes to the target like a guided missle. The ball can be worked - fade, draw or whatever - really well for the "player". I love the blades on stiff shafts since I played clubs with this configuration ever since I was a teen. These Apexes (well named in my opinion) are of the highest quality (they were forged in '88 or '89) and still perform well. I was impressed that these Hogan blades are pinned into the shaft when most clubmakers abandoned this practice (although it makes it difficult to change out the shaft). The blade-within-a-blade design along with the square leading edge and the relatively deep flange produce shots that are easy to line up, hit and get the ball up well. To me, the above shows utmost quality and design. I do not believe they are for those who prefer large-bladed perimeter weighted irons or hyrids (based on comments given to me during charity golf events I play in). I'll keep playing these until I can't hit them anymore.

  Ben Hogan Apex Blades

I am 35 years old, and have been playing golf for some time now. I had gotten my handicap down to a 6, and thought I could elevate my game with a precision set of instruments. If you've never hit a set of blades, be ready for a shock, the initial feedback comes from the mishits your cavity's were covering up. It took me about 3 weeks of play before I was comfortable with the set of Irons. There is nothing like the feeling of hitting the 5 or 6 iron right in the sweet spot, the E wedge is the most solid feeling club I've ever had in my hands. If your a good ball striker, I recommend a set of Hogan blades, if your terribly inconsistent, stay away from the muscle backs.(like playing baseball on a cold day, and fouling a pitch of the handle, STINGS the hands)I believe the way your clubs look to you, inspires confidence, and these clubs look GREAT, classic styling, shiny chrome, really nice to look at. These irons also are unbelievably easy to work, a draw is just a swing of the club, a fade is just a little adjustment of the swing and it falls to the right on the green. In my opinion, one of the best golf equipment purchases I've ever made. Ben Hogan rules!

Best golf iron I'd ever have, and I have at least 9 sets in the last 26 years.
not for the beginners sake, these need to be practiced with and it'll reward you with pin seeking accuracy, like throwing darts at the pins.
Don't see the old craftsmanship in the newer models, what a shame to have this legacy gradually fade away.

  Great Blades

If you can hit blades well you can hit anything well. They are less forgiving than a lot of the big headed irons, but the sweet spot on all are the same. The Apex is just a great blade. Mine are with graphite. The first I have ever used in irons. The combination just works. Maybe blades are less forgiving, but I haven`t seen it. PRACTICE WITH A GOOD SET OF BLADES LIKE THE APEX AND SEE HOW MUCH QUICKER YOUR GAME COMES TOGETHER.

What's not to love.Balance, feel, finish, quality is un-matched. Yes they demand that you be on plane and on the "sweet spot" but the feedback is immediate and un-mistakeable. You want to "shape a shot" into the opening to the green? Fine. Draw it or fade it. You want to stop the ball on the green and eliminate role? No sweat.
Off center hit? Forgiveness was not in Ben Hogans vacabulary. These irons will not reward off center hits but the reward for a good swing...........AHHH !

These are CLEARLY one of the very finest forged irons ever made.

There are not only stunningly beautiful but also quite easy to hit.

They put Mizuno's to shame.

The BEST Hogan blades EVER !!

  Used Ben Hogan Apex Irons

I've always wanted a set of Hogan Apex irons. They are good clubs, generally for better players and can be expensive. I found a set on ebay and was extremely happy to see them after I won the auction. The description for the clubs said they were "mint" and I was pleasantly shocked at the wonderful condition of these irons.

  Hogan Apex as New.
Review created: 01/08/09

The clubs are exactly as described, they are like new in every way. I was a Hogan staff member in the late 70's and have been looking for a quality Apex blade and these are it. The seller described the clubs accurately, packaged them in a Hogan Box with foam separators. A quality transaction all around. NixGolf

  Excellent set of forged blades
Review created: 05/07/08
by:

I think Ben Hogan Apex blades are wonderful clubs to play. This is my second set - I have one in Oregon where I live, and one in Phoenix where I visit and play frequently. I would recommend them to anyone who has reasonably decent golf skills. You don't have to be a low-handicapper to play these. I'm not. No, they aren't as forgiving as most larger, cavity back heads, but if you want instant feedback from the clubhead, these rate superb in that area. I can shape shots with ease, and there is NOTHING like the feel of compressing a golf ball with a forged club.

Be forewarned that the Apex blades (just like most blades) have weaker lofts, club to club, when compared to most current cavity back irons. The result is you won't hit the ball quite as far as you would with the equivalent club number in a cavity back.

Buy yourself a set and enjoy!

  Great Irons
Review created: 04/25/08
by:

I grew up playing blade irons. I ended up switching to cavity backs years after not playing. I could never hit the ball straight. After going through many cavity back clubs, I decided to try out my old (very old) blades. I found that I hit them perfect. So I then decided to do some research and try to find some newer style blades that looked like my old ones. I read great reviews on the Ben Hogan Apex. These are some great clubs. I don't think I will have to search for new irons for awhile. If these get lost or stolen, I will replace with another set.

These clubs turned out to be exactly as the seller had described them as far as their condition was concerned. For the price that I bought at and their condition, I definitely have no hesitation to rate them "excellent". I liked the fact that the clubs had little or no scratches, the lustre was good, and the grips were in a good condition as well.
