Bought this for my wife, a true southern lady. She loves the book and plans to use some of the recipes.

A friend recommended the book. Passed it on to another who has "little old ladies" in her Book Club. Will buy more copies for Christmas gifts. Great stories and recipes.

"Being Dead is No Excuse" was horrible!!!

I bought this book because we were reading it for book club. I thought there would be a story; there wasn't. It was mainly recipes with a little southern funeral tradition thrown in. I guess I am not that interested in funeral tradition or who drink more after the funeral.

This book is a HOOT. I never knew there was so much to know about funerals! The recipes look delicious too. The authors absolutely know how to take something that is usually pretty depressing and show that humor can make such a difference. This book is an absolute must read.

This really brings the Dead to life in the South
Review created: 06/01/07

Loved this book. If you grew up in the South in the 60's you not only will understand these people but there will be two or three you will swear they based on your relatives. Funerals are a sad time, but this book lets you see the humor in some really unusual situations and gives you recipes to go with it. Sort of like looking forward to going to a funeral because you know Auntie will bring her 'funeral' salad that you just can't get enough of. My only complaint about this book was there just wasn't enough of it....

  Being Dead Is No Excuse

This "cookbook" is simply wonderful. It has some really good recipes
to be used at times we all need comfort food. What is particularily
interesting about this book are the humerous tales and experience of
the author/s.
I gave this book as a gift for 2 friends for Christmas and they are
also very fond of it. I think most people would find this is an most
interesting side of life.

My son went to Stanton Hall in Natchez and bought the book. He was going back to Boston and I wanted one for myself so I went to E Bay and got it for 1/2 price and got it in 3 days , A great and funny read. Good recipes too. Things I knew from Growing up down South but didn't realize how ingrained they were. Funny Funny . Thanks Sylvia

  Being Dead Is No Excuse

I learned about this book during a weekend trip to Charleston, SC, with my garden club. Everyone was talking about how funny it was and having been brought up in the South, I could relate to a lot of the stories. So I bought it for my girlfriend to give to her husband. He works for a funeral home and he loved it!
