Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (DVD, 2007)

This movie was the biggest piece of crap. I spent the first 40 minutes tring to figure out what the hell was going on. Not only did it not make any sense it was very boring. I ended up falling asleep for a good 10 minutes. Woke up asked my girlfriend what had happened. She said i don't know its hard to follow. At this time the movie was over an hour in. Finally the guy starts to go on his killing spree. By the time this happens you just want to take the movie out and throw it across the room. I didn't understand how this movie got such great reviews. It was very boring!!! Do yourself a favor and avoid this movie unless you need a nap.

Every year there are a bunch films that get very small releases and then go away without anyone really seeing them. Out of those films only 1 or 2 are worth seeing. Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon is that film of 2006. It deconstructs the slasher film in a was thats both scary AND funny. It's the perfect movie for a slasher fan or even if you not but know the genre. Seriously but this. The transfer is is fine for a regular standard definition DVD and the Soundtrack is a 5.1 Dolby Digital mix which is decent as well.

Such a fun movie to watch. Lead characters did a great job. Nice twist to the conventional horror movie. Highly recommended for fans of the FT13/Halloween/NMoES series.

As a short and sweet review, this movie takes the piss on the Horror genre, but still being an effective horror movie itself. In a documentary style format, the killer is known from the beginning of the movie and he tells the audience all the secrets and tribulations of a serial killer / mass murderer. A group of college kids with cameras follow him around like he is a big joke, filming his training regime. Some of the comments in this movie are hilarious, including the reference of parts of the female anatomy in relation to the Horror concept. In the last 30 minutes the heat really turns up! The actor that plays the killer is one of a kind, you can not keep your eyes off him (Nathan Baesel). The cast also includes classic horror actors/actresses Robert Englund and Zelda Rubinstein. The only down-side of the movie is the rest of the cast all put in quite poor performances (including the main female character Angela Goethals), dreadful cringe-worthy acting, but if you are a true fan of horror you should be use to that.

I bought this film because a few of my friends recommended it, and I must say, this is one of the most original horror flicks I have seen in a long time. I would definitely recommend it. Great acting, great story line, funny and suspenseful.
