Beginner's Guide to Large Scale Model Railroading

Large scale railroading can be fun for the entire family -- in the garden or in the home. And you are probably wondering why large scale trains are still popular when the trend of hobby trains are going to the smaller scale trains? Well, the reason being is that they are particularly showy and hard to ignore. Also they perform reliably.
However, the model train hobby can trace its origins to the beginning of the full-sized railroad industry in the 1830s. The 1st hobby trains were made by craftsmen for themselves or wealthy clients. Then toy train makers sprouted like weeds in Germany and Great Britain.
Large scale trains are collectibles and are absolutely fun for the kids. In fact, before you buy any hobby trains for your children, take them to a train show or hobby shop first. Watch their reaction, if their eyes light up or they laugh and smile or even just get excited... They LOVE trains~
Another reason this is a great book -- lots of pictures! And large trains are ideal for small children because they can be virtually indestructible. However, adult supervision is required because the trains operate from a power pack that plugs in 110 volt outlet. Just a little common sense goes a long way.
This book will give you diagrams and types of tracks needed to complete your layout. How to increase the play value of the train set to make things more interesting for the children and stimulate their imaginations.
This book has more! Maintenance tips, building an indoor layout, Introduction to Garden Railroading, Large scale showcase and even an introduction to live steam engines!
I really enjoyed the simplicity and visual layout of this book. It explains the details needed to get the most out of large scale train hobby for the beginners.
