Beer (VHS, 1988)

What happens when a failing Beer company is desperate for advertising to get back on it's feet? Anything! Scheming ad agent Loretta Swit is a woman in a man's world dying for a chance to prove herself. She gets her chance when 3 down on their luck guys thwart a would be robbery by accident. The 3 are heroes & Swit is quick to try to capitalize on their fame. She pitches their heroics to the president of the failing Norbecker Brewing Company. Through a series of heroic commercials, Norbecker's star soars! But Swit's hunky he men soon find the spot light is not always the best place to be.

This film is filled with many humorous moments as the less than heroic heroes desperately struggle with fame & their new images. Their is plenty of star power here! Besides Swit, the cast features Rip Torn as a legendary commercial director, David Alan Grier as one of the would be heroes & Kenneth Mars as A.J.Norbecker. The characters & performances are larger than life as is fitting for this type of film. It is amazing to watch Swit's character twist every new event in her favor to keep her dream alive. The side stories are all very well written & portrayed. This is a very well thought out & made movie! It won't make any film critic's list, but if you love films which show the darker side of life, this is a film you will really enjoy! Beyond that, it is a wonderful light comedy that will keep you entertained throughout!
