Publisher's Note This first novel by Argentine author Stamadianos, is a romp through the life of twenty-four-year-old Ulysses, the anti-hero of a very peculiar and not far-reaching odyssey. An eternal adolescent, son of Greek immigrants, husband of a woman (hardly Penelope) whom he considers a ball and chain, and lacking a future, Ulysses desires only one thing: to escape.
Industry Reviews All Ulysses wants is to get away from his shotgun marriage, the drudgery of a job in his father's bar, and the memory of a brother killed in the Falkland Islands War. His chance comes when he encounters the crew of an American yacht, known for their telltale discarded beer cans. To escape with them in pursuit of the elusive American dream, he is willing to sacrifice his family, betray his friends, and compromise his values. Like his namesake, Ulysses embarks on an odyssey, constantly tempted and thrown off course along the way. Stamadianos, an Argentine of Greek heritage, has written a picaresque, satirical adventure of a man without a country. The engaging saga is at times humorous and often, caveat lector, rather salacious. Recommended. Lawrence Olszewski, OCLC Lib., Dublin, OH Kolchin
