Few other guitarists are as deserving of the box-set treatment as Beck. 1991's BECKOLOGY is a three-disc set, exhaustively compiled to represent every era of Beck's long and winding career. The set also includes a 60-page booklet with a bio, classic pix, and a Beck band-member family tree.
Starting with one of Beck's very first bands, the Tridents, Disc One mainly focuses on his work with blues-rock groundbreakers the Yardbirds ("Train Kept-A-Rollin," "Happenings Ten Years Ago") and Beck's early solo work ("Hi Ho Silver Lining"). Disc Two contains tracks with a then-unknown singer named Rod Stewart ("Shapes of Things," "Jailhouse Rock") and selections from the short-lived Beck, Bogert, Appice trio ("Black Cat Moan"). The final disc focuses on Beck's mid-'70s instrumental era ("Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Freeway Jam") and on such mercurial '80s work as Beck/Stewart's hit cover of "People Get Ready." BECKOLOGY is a fitting retrospective of this guitar legend.
