Album Notes
L7: Donita Sparks (vocals, guitar, bass, piano, percussion); Suzi Gardner (vocals, guitar); Dee Plakas (drums, percussion).
Additional personnel: Lionel Richie (spoken vocals); Rob Cavallo (acoustic guitar); Greta Brinkman (bass); Chris Bratton (drums).
Recorded at Conway Recording Studios, Hollywood, California and Sound City, Van Nuys, California.
L7 has trimmed down to a trio for the presumptuously titled THE BEAUTY PROCESS: TRIPLE PLATINUM, but it hasn't cut back on raw power. The album isn't likely to live up to either part of its title, but grunge-hungry fans aren't going to mind. With Greta Brinkman filling in on bass (Gail Greenwood of Belly took over the bass role shortly after the album was finished), the buzzsaw guitar-rock of THE BEAUTY PROCESS solidifies L7's position as a female Helmet with hooks.
Singer-guitarists Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner grind out a thunderous sound that gives weight and power to lyrics like "My piss is yellow/And the sky is blue." Even when the band switches gears for an acoustic tune like "Me, Myself & I," the only thing preventing it from going ballistic is the lack of amplification.

Editorial Reviews
...L7's clearly delineated roar packs a wallop....[L7 won't] change the world, but [they] give good rock buzz... - Rating: B
Entertainment Weekly

6 (out of 10) - ...Essentially, L7 are the same pop-metal band they were in 1990. Not pop-metal like where-are-they-now hair band Winger, but pop as in Green Day and metal as in the Melvins....L7 are perfectly happy to rock, dress like roadies, and fall off bar stools with glee-filled abandon...
Spin (04/01/1997)

4 Stars (out of 5) - ...L7 sound bigger and brawnier here, yet somehow crisper and more distinctive than ever before....equally influenced by the knowing swagger of the early Stooges and the '50s girl groups from whom L7 are constantly borrowing backup-vocal phrasings...
