The Only Thing You've Done Was Yesterday
Review created: 02/22/06

Pros:
All of Lennon's tracks, I've Just Seen A Face, Yesterday, I Need You

Cons:
Another Girl, The Night Before, You Like Me Too Much

The Beatles had such huge success in 1964. They arrived in America in February 1964, and Beatlemania reached such heights as never seen before. They made a movie, Hard Day's Night which acquired the praise of both fans and critics, the soundtrack just as successful. Now, in 1965 let's see if The Beatles are up to the challenge of duplicating, or continuing their success. They release another movie, Help! and a soundtrack of course to accompany the film of the same name. One road The Beatles had taken, either purposely or accidentally, had reinvented their song writing style and emerged with a.

Pros:
Lots of excellent songs

Cons:
The entire CD's less than 35 minutes

Help! is an oft-overlooked Beatles album from 1965. As you can probably tell from its title, this is the soundtrack to the film Help!. Although a lot of people believe the movie is inferior to the Beatles' first effort, A Hard Day's Night, many agree that the soundtrack is superior. Unfortunately, the album is usually overlooked because it's not as "revolutionary" as their next works, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and The Beatles (The White Album). Help! shows the Beatles' maturation as a group. George Harrison was finally seriously attempting songwriting (his..

  "It's a thingie! A fiendish thingie!"
Review created: 08/08/04

Pros:
The Beatles, the music, hilarious moments, clear picture and sound, special features

Cons:
Thin plot

In 1964, a film about British music group the Beatles was quickly rushed out in order to create a soundtrack full of new songs and allow fans to see their idols on the big screen. Studio execs at United Artists figured the group would fade away, so the film had no plot and was shot in black-and-white to save money. But surprisingly, that film, A Hard Day s Night, became a huge critical and box-office success. The Beatles didn t fade away; instead, they just became more and more popular. United Artists decided it was time for another Beatles film, and this time it would even be in color. The...

Completely nutty, crazy comedy revolving around a well-known foursome.

Pros:
Really, really funny in the old-school (no violence, no obscenity) way.

Cons:
The Beatles can't act, somewhat outdated special effects.

Help! is a musical comedy which revolves around the classic band The Beatles. Or more accurately, around it's drummer Ringo Starr. Or, to be completely precise, around his left third finger. However murderous cults, Bahama Scotland Yard, and man-eating blow-dryers steal the screen. Action sets out at a mysterious mid-Eastern temple, where a group of equally mysterious cult members prepare for the daily human sacrifice. A girl in a bikini and a pound of jewelry is placed on the altar... when the High Priest Clang notices that the sacred ceremonial ring is missing from the victim's finger! No...

John, Paul, George & Ringo in The Beatles, HELP!
Review created: 02/08/04

Pros:
Zany movie starring the incomparable Fab Four! Very entertaining movie for any fan.

Cons:
None whatsoever!

My younger son and I decided to rent a movie last night. I had the bright idea to rent an oldie, The Beatles, HELP! I thought he would like since he's an avid Beatles fan. Coincidentally, tonight is the 40th anniversary of the Beatles first American television appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. (It is somehow hard to believe that it has been a whopping 40 years ago since their arrival to this country and their huge popularity which followed!) I hadn't seen The Beatles, HELP! since it first came to the big screen in 1965 when my parents took us to see it (complete with teenage girls screaming.
