The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (DVD, 2003)

"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" was the first film that started the genre of atomic age dinosaurs and monsters. Ray Harryhousin was the creater of many of these films combined with his stop motion filming skills. Of his film's of nuclear creatures include "The Giant Behemoth", "It came from Beneath the Deep", and Willis O'Brian's "The Black Scorpion". From Black and White to Color however "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" remains the best.

The movie is in great shape. .The only real small problem is the cover having a small tear off of it. No big deal.

This was bought as a Christmas gift for my brother, the biggest Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie buff in the family. We all love the stop-action animation of Ray Harryhausen and were thrilled to find The Beast on DVD. I can't imagine the patience these animation artists must have had bringing their creations to life frame by frame. These movies are truly works of art!

The item is very rare and now the company has placed as HD TV quality one has the option of using a full screen or widescreen and when i hit widescreen it fills up the entire LCD HD TV screen and thats whaqt i like about many of the new dvds out there the companies are making are all time classics into widescreen accessible.

I loved it watch it 3 times in a row saw things i didn't see before. If you like old movies i would recommend this.

I am sure many of you are just like me in the fact that growing up as a "Baby Boomer" we almost lived in front of the television set. Many a Saturday evening while my parents were at their club I sat home watching horror movies by the hour. Compare to today's special effects most of those great movies were a bit on the "cheesy side." The visual effects were mainly elaborite costumes or Stop-Action photography. Still being a child of the Nuclear age the thought of long frozen monsters and flying saucers seemed possible. As I grew older these special movies faded into the past.

Now that I have the ways and means shop the internet I have found many of these old gems available. Quite a few are available on DVD if you know where to look. This movie was one of my golden age favorites. It also is a great place to see many movie stars before they were famous. Little did I know that the "Bad" from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" was once an U.S. Army sharpshooter. Look close and you can see "Angle Eyes" use a rifle-granade tipped with radioactive isotopes instead of a six-gun to drop the big ugly.

I have found Ebay the perfect place to hunt down lost monsters from my youth. Do you remember the one about the giant grasshoppers? How about the spaceship they found in the London subway? They are there, just look for them.

I purchased this movie for mainly one reason. It stars my cousin, Paula Raymond, and I am trying to collect as much of her as possible, Movies, photos, etc. The movie itself was ok and I did enjoy it. It is a good old fashion type horror film which I do prefer as to those of today. Miss Raymond was an excellent actress, and would have been more famous if it was'nt for her tragidies. I would recommend seeing this or any other of her movies, and you will see for yourself.

I always loved all the 50's sci-fi movies and this is one of the best. It is a Harryhausen movie. I was a teen in the 50's and never got over my love of all the great sci-fi movies of the era. I have been collecting sci-fi for years and thoroughly enjoyed this one.
