A nice addition to your BSG music collection

This CD is a very nice compliment to the BSG music collection. Composition by Bear McCreary is solid as to be expected, especially given his excellent run of Battlestar Galactica music / CDs to date. This soundtrack captures the feel for Caprica, and is a very good score overall... but at the same time (sorry if this is a downward note), it doesn’t seem to pull you in nearly as much as some of the other stellar BSG albums McCreary has put together. This is probably largely in part due to the fact that Caprica, while a *very good* 2-hour premier, doesn’t really have any pulse-pounding events similar to what our acoustical senses have grown accustomed to from our past BSG episodes [without being a spoiler, Caprica is an excellent drama... but without the obvious space battles and/or attack/tension scenes BSG commonly offered, the music - while great for the drama that Caprica is, is naturally to a different tone than the pulse-pounding renditions found on most other BSG CDs]. On the plus side, several of the tracks still have a reminiscent BSG sound (as one would expect!). The end credits would be the closest transition to the music we’ve heard in the past from McCreary. This album features several great compositions, with heavy use of string instruments. I’m still more than happy to have this in my BSG collection, and would buy it again on a moments notice if I didn’t have it. If you’re a BSG fan, and/or have seen and enjoyed Caprica, you’re sure to enjoy this CD. If anything, I’d recommend you see Caprica first, rather than try to compare this CD to other BSG/McCreary soundtracks, so you can put the context of the music into place with the drama that Caprica is, and will (hopefully) continue to be with future episodes!
