We popped it in the player Christmas morning & to my surprise the WHOLE CD is great! There's a great mix of all her styles right here on one CD. I recommend it to any Bette fan. It's got everything from mellow to brass to thought-provoking. The CD was originally given to me by a friend because of the song "I'm Beautiful - Dammit!". But when the CD became unplayable for one reason or another, I had to have another copy because I had grown to love "Lullaby in Blue". Buy it. If you like Bette Midler, you won't be disappointed. There s a radio program round these parts called Songs of Your Life. On it, if you ve given a certain amount in the pledge drive, you get to do a one-hour show of you favorite songs. One night as I was driving home from work the subject of this program played the song "I m Beautiful." Now I ve heard about 40 songs that I thought at the time "I should get that" and never did. Perhaps it's because she doesn't give a damn. Don't like the way she looks, sings or acts? Well too bad sounds like it's your problem NOT her's. That is the attitude she takes and I love it ! If you haven't gotten it up until now, you could do a whole lot worse than this as an introduction. This is Bette as God intended her. There's plenty of good schmaltz ("Song of Bernadette", the theme from the movie One True Thing), plenty of double entendre ("One Monkey Don't Stop No Show"), and a lot of just plain great Bette.
