The Bastard by John Jakes is the start of a 7 book series named the Kent Family Chronicles. It is wonderful Pre-Revolutionary War novel beginning this great series. The story starts in France and follow Phillipe Charbeneau through a trouble life in a journey to America in a time when America is strugling to find its self. Jakes is absolutely incredible at creating characters in a true event and time emphasizing the important events in time as if the characters where there without affecting the events.
The book will make you search your local library for The Rebels, the 2nd Volume of the Kent Family Chronicles!
    Highly Recommend!
