This was purchased for my boyfriend's birthday. His mother had passed away a few months ago, and the both of them watched the videos of this film till the tape wore out. (She was incapacitated by stroke, and he cared for her for eight years, they were very close.) He'd mentioned several times that he wanted to get this set on DVD, and so on his birthday, I found this set and bought it for him.
I knew that he would be thrilled to receive this set, but I was unprepared for his reaction upon opening his gift. He began crying, and explained to me how much this film meant to him and to his mother. He started watching them right away, and had gone through the entire 23 hours of film in a little over a week.
I have watched a bit of these with him, and I find Ken Burn's work to be very thorough and completely entertaining. I am no sports fan, but I found the history of "America's game" very interesting, and the quality of these DVD's is very good. Interviews, pictures, even the music, all was intriguing and evocative. My boyfriend tells me again and again how this was the very best birthday gift he'd ever received.
