Barrett by Syd Barrett (CD, Sep-2005, EMI Records UK)

This particular version that I purchased was actually a 1994 pressing from Argentina on the EMI label...In my opinion, not the most desirable country of origin for CDs...The CD itself sounded perfect and played wonderfully...

"Barrett" is the second solo release from Pink Floyd's original creative force, Roger "Syd" Barrett..."Barrett" was recorded from 1969 - 1970, with David Gilmour and Roger Waters co-producing the sessions, despite having forced Syd Barrett out of Pink Floyd in late 1967...

The front cover Artwork is a painting of insect flies by Syd Barrett, who considered himself a painter and artist more than a musician, even while writing and performing with Pink Floyd...This album seems to have darker overtones than Syd's first solo effort, "The Madcap Laughs" also released in 1970...

For those of you who like early Pink Floyd - "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"(Syd's only complete album with Pink Floyd) or even "Saucerful of Secrets"(Syd wrote and plays on "Jugband Blues"), you may want to experience the raw, slightly frazzled Syd as heard on Madcap and Barrett...This is Pink Floyd stripped of the heavy production, tape effects and even swirling organs...
