I got familiar with the author through watching her cooking show on food TV. Her elegant style just immediately caught my attention. This book itself is like a piece of art. I enjoyed just flipping through it. Each recipe has a beautiful picture on glossy paper, which is really helpful in understanding the food I'm making. I always like to see the picture before I try out the recipe, so I know what I will be making. :) The recipes are divided into the following sections:

    soup and sandwich
    salads
    dinner
    vegetables
    dessert
    breakfast

I just tried one muffin recipe and it turned out to be absolutely delicious. It was the best muffin I've ever had. So much better than any store bought ones. Not only the recipes are simple, Ina also teaches some tricks on cooking and shopping. Great to have.

This book is highly recommanded whether or not you enjoy the cooking.

    Happy Cooking!
    Elizabeth

Barefoot Contessa - Fabulous Chef, Fabulous Book
    Review created: 12/07/07
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I am a huge fan of Ina Garten. I love watching her shows and I love to cook. I saw the book at Target but thought it was too pricey so I went home and found for far less on ebay. It came just in time for Thanksgiving and I cooked a fabulous dinner (with Ina's recipes from the book, of course) that everyone loved. Barefoot Contessa at Home is absolutely fabulous. Not only are the recipes easy to understand, but they are simplistic in their sophisticated execution. The recipes are realistic - they're not just for fancy dinners! They're everyday dishes that don't take the whole day to prepare. Who could ask for more? I highly recommend this book. It's not just a cookbook, it's an answered prayer for simple, 5 star recipes that even little ol' me could make the way Ina intended. Fabulous.
