Complete guide of Barbie doll fashions from 1968-1974.

This series of guide books is invaluable to anyone interested in Barbie doll clothes. I hope she keeps making them. And I hope the authors of other guide books follow her example. She lists every outfit made during the time period (there is an earlier and later edition for other time periods). The 327 pages of this book are full of photographs (color photo of each outfit) and descriptions of each piece of clothing made for Barbie and her friends/family.

I would not necessarily believe the prices listed in the book. But it will certainly help you identify your item and then you can search completed items on ebay to find what your particular outfit might be worth.

Barbie Bible for 1968 to 1974

When I started collecting, one of the great difficulties was to decide which Barbie books to purchase. There are a ton of them, and you can easily go into serious debt just trying to find the most helpful of them. This is a great book, and I use it every day, unlike many of the books I purchased. The photos and information are wonderful. I have the other two Sarah Sink Eames books on Barbie, and for the outfits, and also for the markings on the dolls, they are all top notch. I did invest in the Barbie Closet, another one I highly recommend. It is so large, however, that I use the Sarah Sink books to locate the outfit I am looking for, and then venture forth to locate it in the Closet. Also, Sarah Sink Eames' books have, in general, better photos. So do yourself a favor, and invest in her books, the closet, and for the dolls themselves, a great book is Face of the American Dream Barbie Doll 1959 to 1971. It tells a great deal about rare dolls, the history of each doll, the lip colors, hair colors, etc. For example, there are two pages on how to tell the difference between a platinum bubble and a white ginger. What a help that was!

This book documents Barbie Doll's wardrobe between the years of 1968-1974, and it has lots of beautiful photos of fabulous mod era fashions for Barbie- the best buys, the "Get Ups & Go", and lots more. Plus you also get to see clothes for Francie, Skipper, PJ and Barbie's other friends & family. If you buy or sell fashion dolls, this book will save you a lot of time and aggravation with identification of various pieces that you'll come across. The photography is outstanding, and the book has very detailed information about each outfit that was available, right down to the little accessories that complete it. It's a great book! I highly recommend it!

  Great for doll fashion identification!
Review created: 03/29/07(updated 07/22/07)

While the fashions are nicely shown throughout this book they would have been much easier to find if they had been listed by doll and then by year. As it is now the fashions are listed by year, then by doll which makes trying to locate the name of any outfit or the correct accessories time consuming, especially if you are not sure of what year the outfit was issued. This could have been remedied with the help of an index in the back of the book, but alas, there isn't one. So unless you put sticky notes throughout the book and make an index of the book for your own records, expect to be spending some time flipping through the book scanning the pages for what you need... over and over and over again.
