Barbarella (DVD, 1999)

This is a great science fiction movie from the late '60s which stars no other than the famous Jane Fonda as Barbarella. There is also some great music from Duran Duran. Back in the day it was an x-rated movie. It is just over two hours long and you will enjoy every minute of it.

This film is too corny for words. It is Jane when she was young, (And dumb?) but very sexy.

The writing is very hilarious, the story totally corny, and the special effects bad beyond belief. But it's so bad it's fun, worth owning.

The costumes are great, in a scantily-clad way. Overall just a crackup.

Nostalgia....Saw this at the theater nearly 40 yrs ago when I still liked Jane. Cheezy special effects, not unlike Flash Gordon. Corny, but fun!!

The hair, the outfits, that body, the whole film is a riot. Reminds me of all the brain damage we all suffered, what fun.

I loved the costuming. The movie is a classic, funny film with great sexual overtones. It reflects the 60's and 70's genre.

the movie a cult classic was campy as ever, one of those movies you watch and and were thankful you did not pay to see, Jane fonda at her best? When I first saw this thought it was great now that I am older well it is a bellow average movie, it did not translate to small screen well. better on big screen. But I will add to my Library for prosperity sake.

Jane Fonda portrays a nieve space traveler on a rescue mission to save Duran Duran in this 60's psychodelic delution. In her so called attempt to rescue a fallen earth man she travels through a maze of oddities and strange outcasts who tend more to the swinging 70's as Barbarella can't seem to keep her clothes on long enough to solve anything, yet sleeps her way through just to discover that Duran Duran has turned Evil and is plotting to take over this strange new world.

Took a little longer to receive, but got it just fine. Needed this DVD and they had the best price at the time. They also had other older DVD's to choose from.

I love this movie. Everything about it crie out 'imagination'. If you like the 60s and 70s era of films then this one will knock your socks off.

Barbarella; has this movie changed, or have I? When I first saw it, back in the sixties, it seemed the culmination of the awakening attitudes of freedom of thought, of sexuality and of humor. The fifties had been a grey era of conformity and our impatience with its formal stoginess had finally broken through.
Science-fiction combined with fantasy - Barbarella had it all, plus the amusing spectacle of Jane Fonda's beauty contrasting with her all-American, corn-fed accent. The plot was slight, the special effects unconvincing, but the charm of its actors carried one along to the end. Now it seems curiously dated and unconvincing, the attitudes stale.
Watch it for what it was and if you're my age, revel in the nostalgia for an age that seems as remote as the 1920's.

I am a sucker for those movies from the past that fortell the future. This time it is space phycidilia 70's style with the famous Fonda intro without the sparkles and you can maybe slip back through time enough to apperciate the excitment this caused. But if that does not get you the rest of the movie is a hoot with some off the wall backgrounds and effects. A true classic.

Got it to show my kids (18 & 21) what Jane Fonda did in the late 60's. We laughed through the whole thing. It was great!

A great comic book tale! I bought Barbarella for a friend who had never seen it-her name just happens to be Barb (nicknamed 'Barbarella', of course.) So she needed to see what that was all about.

I am so pleased to have found a new, DVD copy of such a camp classic! This movie provided MANY hours of entertainment when I was in college.

I saw this with my first husband on a Riverside movie theater. It was a midnight showing. I remembered we both were excited to go see it we heard it was good. I was in my 20’s and newly married. I have thought about it off & on threw the years. BUT I didn’t remember there were nude scenes in it. I remember it as it was it was ok BUT with her nude, etc. I was shocked. I don’t know why I didn’t remember it maybe because it was about 30 yrs ago. I am different now. This is like the Spaghetti Western style to me. Cheaply made, some of them were good movies... so so... Acting... below average. Sorry I have seen her in better. Was very disappointed in this one. If you like Spaghetti Westerns you will like this. I love collecting movies I saw when Very young – threw the years. Some I get are corny & I think I was scared to watch that movie or I thought this movie was great. Me I am disappointed in the second watching after all these years. I like to see clean movies that the family could watch. If you like nude scenes this is for you. If you like family style this is not for you..

I saw it when it first came out, but didn't remember much except the burned out torture machine. After watching it I realized it is set in a supposed to be enlighten future. Seeing Barbarella experience sexual pleasure for the first time was interesting. The blind Angel was a beautiful man, she thanks him in her unique way for saving her life. If you like fantasy and Sci Fi campy movies this one is very interesting. As others have said, Jane Fonda was a very beautiful and very young woman at the time of this movie. Her acting has become more mature and stronger. I don't judge political views when reviewing this film.

Was in the sixties a sexy, cientific fiction movie.
I never have seen it again. I think that it wasn't mutch loved in that times.
I want review. May be after i change my opinion; with more 40 years in my brain...

Ok, I'll just say it. This was a really bad movie, but, guys will enjoy it because no matter what you think about Hanoi Jane, you have to admit, she is one foxy lady in her early years and easy on the eyes.

Barbarella is a downright terrible movie, and that it is so great. With an utterly nonsensical storyline, huge plot gaps, and a surprising amount of nudity for a PG movie, this one is a gem for your "movies so bad that they are good" collection.
