Delivers Fantastic, Eye Popping Scenes That Keep You ON

At first glance, this Lionsgate film which is produced by no other than THE Nicolas Cage (himself), Charlie Young, and the Pang Brothers, doesn't seem that much out of the ordinary for a Nicolas Cage Film.

Those that follow Cage in film, usually know that he is not going to play a dull and boring character altogether. Predictably speaking, either he plays a man that is frustrated with life, wants a change, or is thoroughly believable in the role of a person living on the edge about to burn out from burning both ends of the candle simultaneously. The movie can also usually start with a narration of a simple motto of how the character lives, or just be a completely narrated film listening to the conscience of the character talking to himself or others.

In Bankok Dangerous, Joe (Nicolas Cage) is a very high-dollar, low profile assassin, that struggles with his conscience because his life is nothing but consumed with making money for doing his dastardly deeds. Joe seems completely focused on his work and continues to remind himself about the self-imposed rules he has adopted. He continually tells himself, "Don't get involved with anyone, including your customers or your help". This stone-cold isolationism finally takes its toll upon him as he plans his retirement based upon a final job with a client in Bangkok involving many killings for payment.

For some odd reason, he starts to down a path that violates his own rules. Maybe this was his turning away from the normal old killer Joe. This wild turn soon will eventually backfire in his face when his usual shocking life stares his new dreams down into the gutter. Thinking that love would change his life, he gets involved with a beautiful young Thai lady that is deaf, however, we soon find that his lies catch up with him and she shuns his advances.

This movie really has you reeling when Joe's determination to get his third assassination taken care of when things go awry. On the water boats (tai sampans), a thrilling chase ensues as Joe uses every trick of the trade at his disposal to finish the job. His cohort in crime is thoroughly astounded at his determination. Perhaps Joe had something to prove, but we never really know what it was; we only assume he wasn't going to give up until the target was eliminated.

The ending was quite unusual and haunting, which is why I reserve the right not to tell you.

Check this out for sure as well as two other Pang Brothers films called "The Messenger" and "The Eye".

I'll give this movie a 4/5 for being so honest with the presentation of the character, delivering eye-popping scenes that keep you guessing and on target.

Liked the action, however, there could have been more. The locale was somewhat
confined, but no dislikes. I bought this dvd because Nick always gives a
crazy performance and this movie was no exception.

This is about an assassin called Joe who decides to end his career after his next trip abroad. The next trip is to (you'll never guess) Bangkok, where he has 4 people to kill, and he hires a young crook to work for him. However, Joe begins to break his own rules as he begins to see something of himself in the crook and falls in love with a deaf chemist.

I feel sorry for Nicolas Cage. He is possibly the biggest victim of typecasting in Hollywood, and he does his best with the roles he is given but the odd film slips through the net, and sadly Bangkok Dangerous is one of them. Nic is distinctly average in this and the performances of the supporting cast aren't much better with the notable exception of Charlie Yeung, who delivers a fine performance as the love interest.

This film isn't awful, it just suffers from an average and completely unoriginal script. This is Action Movie 101, and unlike some movies it doesn't get away with it by glossing over the cracks with special effects, like Wanted. Like Wanted, I successfully predicted the entire plot straight after Nic's opening monologue. Some scenes were very good, some very bad, the scale is balanced. The movie is like Marmite, you'll either love it or hate it.

  Nicolas Cage
Review created: 06/10/09

I bought this DVD for my husband about 3 weeks ago and "we" immediately watched it together. In one particular action scene, the graphics of the bullets shooting underwater was quite impressive. We really enjoyed this movie, Nicolas Cage does it again!! I don't want to give the ending away, just in case you haven't seen it yet, but I will say I would have given it an alternate ending. Anyway, overall, I'd recommend this DVD if you're looking for a great love, mentoring, action movie to watch.

THIS HITMAN IS THE NEW TARGET!
Review created: 01/07/09

Features actors: Nicolas Cage, Charlie Young,Nirattisai Kaljaruek, Shahkrit Yamnarm
Rating: R
Running time: 100 min.

At the point of departure we find Joe en route to Bangkok for a deadly assignment that is supposed to be that proverbial last big payday before retirement. His rules to his profession: "(1) Don't ask questions; (2) There is no right and wrong; (3) Don't take an interest in people outside of work; and (4) Know when to get out and walk away rich." Joe turns up in Bangkok to carry out some executions for a local gangster, Surat (Nirattisai Kaljaruek), and he resolves that this will be his last assignment before he likely loses his edge. Seeking out a sidekick who can help him navigate this unfamiliar terrain, Joe recruits goofy pickpocket Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), in his mind a disposable accessory like many others before, that he can kill to avoid leaving any trace of himself behind. But Joe soon becomes attached to the young, eager apprentice, against his professional instincts. The two start dating, and in the relatively-sane private moments they share, Joe discovers his sensitive side. Will the kindlier-friendlier hit man muster up the courage to finish the job, collect his fee and disappear into the sunset with the girl?Or will his true job be revealed?

Action-packed movie, has a lot of killing scenes. The end was well so so, could of been better, but keeps you interested!Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading this.please click YES at the bottom. :)
