The guys who put together the Baldur's Gate series of games never fail to impress me with their attention to detail and fine-tuned products. This is, like the games in the series that came before it, a wonderful sweeping adventure, full of interesting quests, strange critters, and a large variety of magic items and equipment.

The graphics are very nice, and the play style is exactly what one who had played the previous games would expect. Overall, the only flaw I could possibly find is the way the characters aren't balanced - some are good in the beginning levels, some at the end - but this is a characteristic trait of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons games (the wizard is always a wimp at the beginning and middle levels, and then extremely powerful at the end).

Set in Faerun, in the Forgotten Realms setting, the story is well-situated within the lore of the novels and D&D source books. And as this franchise continues to sell well, you will come to recognize many similarities between this game and the others in the series. However, they still manage to make this game feel fresh, new, and completely original.

I highly recommend this game.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II - Great Game Play!
Review created: 10/07/07

I own Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I for Game Cube. My spouse and I had so much fun playing in co-op that we wanted to purchase II. Unfortunately, there is no Game Cube version of this game. So we purchased the version for PS II.
Dark Alliance II also allows co-op play. It has another chapter and two more character classes to choose from. You can also re-visit some levels for more loot and experience. Magical items work differently - you create them - giving them their own abilities. In general, the game is more complex and leads to longer play time. The only negative I can think of is that the loot and found items tend to be less plentiful and less valuable. Otherwise - I have to say this is an excellent game! Definitely one of my favorites!

Leave Your Understanding at the Gate

There's a lot to the Baulder's Gate series, and the second release follows right where the first one left off. The plot and its elements are difficult to stay along with, so if you're more into hack and slash adventure rather than an intricate background, I wouldn't recommend the game for you. If you're one who follows along with "intimidating" fantasy elements, this game can be fun. Single player is not nearly as enjoyable as multiplayer, so be sure to have a friend play along.

As far as the aesthetics of the game, the graphics are excellent, third person omniscient view and great effects. Sound is good, and music is a typical Lord of the Rings Howard Shore kind of deal (but to a lesser epic degree). You get a few more characters than the first Baulder's Gate, but don't expect anything great in that department (five characters total, I believe). Armor and weapons system have not changed--as a matter of fact, nothing truly has changed from the first Dark Alliance.

In conclusion, if you enjoyed the first game, then you'll enjoy the second one as well. If you haven't played the first, don't worry about which one you pick up first. Either way, chances are you'll be confused with the plot line and just wind up playing it because it's a fun hack-and-slash-magic-bash adventure/RPG that's best in co-op mode. Either way, it's a buy for all those fantasy lovers out there.

I didn't actually receive the item, but I have played the game and it is most certainly worth owning!!! Awesome game, much better than the first. You evenly split the gold instead of fighting whilst another person steals it all.

This is a must have game for anyone into RPG's. I just wish they would do Baldur's Gate 3 for PS2. That was the only problem I saw they left you hanging for the next adventure at the end of the game.

I teamed up with my boyfriend to play this game. We got through it in a couple of days. The monk and necromancer together make a kickass team. Insane stats. Good graphics and game play. Props.

  Final collection add..
Review created: 02/28/09

I have the best 4 RPG's ever made for the PS2 now:

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance
Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2
Champions of Norrath
Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms

BG:DA2 is the continuation of the first BG:DA. It is a massive time sink, accounting for many hours of crawling and smashing foul creatures. I am so thankful for having been able to find this final title. We (wife and I) have played the other three pretty steadily, beating them, then playing them over and over. My 5-year old son is quickly becoming an expert and on rainy days, or snowy days, these are great fun to crank up and play. Much more enjoyable than watching a movie.

  Baldur's Gate: DA II PS2
Review created: 02/05/09

Excellent game, very similar to Dark Alliance one, but the classes are a lot more fun and more realistic in class distinction. Coop mode is still one of the best. If you liked DA I definitely get this one. Haven't finished it yet so don't know how the story line compares in quality - but have enjoyed it thoroughly so far.

Love this game, particularly the ability to create and modify weapons and armor! I really enjoy playing coop and wish more players could join in the action. Still waiting on another game in the series to match this one as it is the best of the 3.

The controls are a bit different from what I've grown accustomed to with other games by this maker (i.e. Champions), but once I figured them out I found them innovative and useful.
My favorite aspect of this game is that there is a certain level of free will that can be asserted in the storyline. You are given the opportunity to take on side quests, rather than being forced to constantly trudge through the storyline.
Another aspect new to this sequel of the first Baldur's Gate is that each character has a background story that is relevant to the side quests you will have access to, and the way other characters react to your character and vice versa. This makes it so you will need to try going through the game with each of the characters in turn to complete the game in its entirety. Which is a major plus for a "completionist" like myself and my husband.
I absolutely adore this game and will enjoy playing it over and over again. This is definitely a game worth owning.

  Excellent Game.

This is the continuation of its predecessor, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. This game has extra subplots that make the game play more interesting. There are a few more characters of choice. Along with the new characters are more choices of feats that a player can choose from. Right now, this game has peaked my attention and has kept me busy for some time. There is one bad attribute about it, one cannot use their characters they have used in the previous game (sadness). Other than that, this is a very nice investment and well worth the price.

This is an excellent, RARE RPG. It can only be found on eBay and select sights. I purchased it for a friend as a Christmas present. I love the fact that I found this particular game in the nearly new condition it was in and managed to purchase it for less then its appraised value. Ebay provides and excellent, secure, and valued shopping experience to consumers.

GREAT RPG GAME, BUT NOT QUITE ENOUGH ACTION
Review created: 12/06/06
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

THIS IS A GREAT RPG FOLLOWING THE FIRST BALDUER'S GATE. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SINCE PLAYED THE CHAMPIONS OF NORRATH BEFORE PLAYING DARK ALLIANCE II, I THINK YOU MAY BE DISSAPOINTED. WHILE THERE ARE GREAT NEW CHARACTERS TO CHOOSE FROM AND YOU CAN BUILD YOUR OWN WEAPONS USING RUNES....THE GAME PLAY NEVER CHANGES NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL YOU ARE ON, THE ARMOUR AND WEAPONS STAY NOT VERY GOOD UNLESS YOU HAPPEN TO PICK UP A GOOD ONE. ITS WORTH PLAYING AND I HAVE NO REGRETS, BUT ITS NOT ALL ITS CRACKED UP TO BE AND NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE CHAMPIONS OF NORRATH OR CHAMPIONS RETURN TO ARMS.

Best role playing game for ps2, no doubt about it. Don't need the first game to enjoy this one, but you can usually get the first game pretty cheap, so its worth it.

I think the game would be a real blast except for the fact that I never received it. Therefore I can't give it a solid review. If the seller would've sent it to me like they were supposed to then I could.
