I heard a clip of Harvey Kietel talking dirty to this girl on the Howard Stern Show on SIRIUS SATELITE RADIO and I said I gotta see this. I went online and got it on e-Bay!! Harvey is one Crazy Mo Fo. He is a dirty cop into drugs and sex and gambling.. From smoking crack to snorting and shooting heroin to full monty sex with hookers. It is a look into the downward spiral of a dirty cop with no boundaries. Its an oldie but a goodie

A cult film like naional velvet or some davis lynch movie. Extremely disturbing view of a heavily drug addicted cop trying to juggle family problems and drug addiction. While trying to solve a heinous crime against the church.

What could I say?
"Bad Lieutenant" is a really good movie that vividly describes what addictions to drugs, gambling, & sex can do to anybody! Even a highly ranked Lieutenant of a police force! This terrific movie really has a good positive message behind it! That is if you can see past all of the horrific insanity of all the drugs, gambling, & sex abuse and see what could happen to a person involved in these things! The positive message is clearly depicted at the end of the movie! BOOM! Get the picture? Good movie for recovering addicts of drugs, gambling, & sex! Just say NO!
Warning: Not a movie for kids what so ever ! ! ! It has way to much of everything BAD going on throughout the whole entire movie that you would not want your child to see! "Rated NC-17. I mean, that's all you need to know"!

This movie was so intense, I was gripped from begining to end, Harvey commands another stellar performance, OMG I was not ready 4 this brutal carnival ride, it literally sucked me in,shredded my phsycie, then spit me out, leaving me never to be the same!! I became a Keitel fan that day. his other works Reseviour dogs, pulp fiction, runs close but dosent compare to this hard hitten meat cleaver!!! WHAAAAA POWWWW!!!!!! right between the eyes intensity. thats why when i blindley stumbled across it I had to buy it, I had only seen it once. price was perfect highly recommend even if your not a Keitel fan maybe after this one there will be no doubt. i had to remind myself this is only a movie & they are all actors, its nice to be entertained by losing your self in the story. i give it double fisted heavymetal devil horns up, waaaay up!!!!!!!!!!!! <Paul (CASH) V. from Tacoma, WA. This movie is not for the narrow-minded type person, nor children, nor anyone who is easily offended! For the rest of us I have been a huge Keitel fan and have seen about 25 of his movies - this is my favorite! The tone of the movie is like a drain that never stops falling - it is not a lifter, but a piece of work that you must say to yourself, "did that really just happen?". The movie is full of 'one-liners' you would only say to someone you don't like. Watch it with an open mind, and then watch it again so you pick up on the themes that are not so obvious first time viewing.

It's a hardcore NC-17 movie. Harvey does an excellent job of playing a police lieutenant whose life takes bad turns due to his bad decisions involving drug abuse and gambling. We follow his downward spiral as he gets deeper involved in gambling and harder drug use. Of course just like any addict he doesn't think he has any problems that he can't handle. Until its too late! It's a must see movie and on my top 100 movies list. There are no warm and fuzzy plot lines or a hero comes to save the day like many of todays formulated commercial hits.

Honest, obscene, surreal and an accurate depiction of corruption. One of the best films by independent filmmaker Abel Ferrara and excellent acting by Harvey Keitel. Highly recommended.
