Back to Mono [Box] * by Phil Spector (CD, Nov-1991, 4 Discs, ABKCO Records)

I have 5 of these sets... I have one loaded on the CD changer of my primary car, the other 4 are in my collectible closet. I have tons of oldies CD's. I am an oldies freak with hundreds of songs' lyrics buzzing around in my memory! How can I put this? This set is probably the best value in its genre.. End of subject. This CD set was personally REMASTERED by Phil Spector. He considers it a statment on his career. Phil Spector was and is a lot of things, not all of them positive. But as a record producer, he was a fanatic for perfection. That tells you all you need to know about this Box Set. Folks...there are 4 CD's here and a very nice book that you will love to flip through and have on your shelf. Why this set doesn't sell for $100 I will never know... Some dislike the mono v. stereo format... But that is the way Phil produced it, and that is the way he wanted it re-produced. Mono really makes that Wall of Sound dominate...and Phil wanted the "original sound" not some polished re-production. I might by a few more of these sets before its all over. Because if someone wants to sell these for $40 - $50 - maybe $60 bucks? Back up the truck. This set includes every song exactly as recorded on the very expensive "Best of the Ronettes" CD...which sells for over $100 in new condition. That is only 18 of the 50+ songs on here, and those 18 sound EXACTLY the same on both editions. Buy this set now, and be glad you did shortly after you receive it.

This is a box set of a musical genius. Maybe a little crazy, but still a genius....a piece of rock & roll history.

What can I say. I have always felt that 50's & early 60's rock (or songs that sound like that's when they were written) is the best. Great lyrics, music, the
artists, and of course Phil Spector is a genius as a music producer. The Wall Of
Sound.

Love the songs. I had cassettes of Phil Spector songs and the Christmas album. I wanted CDs. If you loved the 60s music, you'll love this.

Regardless of the controversy and hype, Phil Spector ushered in a new era in rock and roll. Groups like the Ronettes inspired a new sound and a new attitude. This set faithfully reproduces the original sound and the magic of those sounds. A great collectors item for any rock historian/collector.

Purchased this 4 cd set for its excellence in music. Unfortunately I never received it. Rock and Roll of the 50's and 60's consisted of the hits of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Duane Eddy and Phil Spector, and his "Wall of Sound." This series reflects on the whole musical history of Phill's "Wall of Sound" from the time he spent with the Teddy Bears" and includes most of the girl groups from that era. Absolutely super.

Very fine selection of music from the 60's. Very enjoyable listening and a diverse group of artists. Ronettes, Righteous Brothers, Bobby Sox and the Blue Jeans, the Crystals and even more. You can't go wrong in you prefer the music from this special period.

At last I got the perfect Christmas gift. The Back To Monobox from Phil Spector.
I looked for the Christmas album for ages and together with the rest of the Ronettes, Bob B. Sox and much more stuff this is a perfect box to listen over and over again. What a giant producer Phil was in the 60.
But one complain why not a COMPLETE Phil SPector BOX? Perhaps to much CD's for one box?
