Babylon A.D. (DVD, 2009, Checkpoint; Sensormatic; Widescreen; Unrated; Extended Cut)

The question that always seems to pop into my head first is this. Does Vin Diesel pick these roles because he better relates to the people he plays, or, do the people making the movie want to type cast him as a real ruthless mercenary with a tiny soft spot who will save the day? I don't know.

Babylon A.D. takes place in the crappy version of the future where everyone who is living in Russia is barely scraping by and New York is still prospering. I'm not sure what kind of message this sends to us yet, BladeRunner's Ridley Scott had a similar vision of a heavily populated chinese base in the San-Francisco future.

The story line was pretty engrossing at times yet kept us wandering whether we where really just wasting our time trying to care for the Girl and Guy trying to get to New York City. A lot's of action but would have been alot better to start the movie in New York City a bit sooner instead of wasting our time wondering whether they were ever going to get out of the God-Forsaken area they started within the script.

There is definitely a reason to see this movie at least once or twice, but nothing like other thrillers like "Event Horizon" or "Blade Runner" where you want to watch it at least 1 a year. I would say very interesting and intriguing enough to keep you guess but borders on making you wish you were on the set of the movie to give more advice to editing and direction.

I'll give this a 4 out of 5 though.

We give BABYLON A.D. a Rating of AVERAGE. It was interesting, and somewhat held our attention throughout the movie, but was much less than what we had expected. The movie could have been so much more, especially with Vin Diesel as the leading role and the enticing plot. It was an alright movie, with some VERY good futuristic ideas and decent writing, but was somewhat BLAH in some scenes. We lost interests several times when watching it and didnt always know what was happening and why.

It offered good graphics and Special Effects.

Even though we give it a "C" Rating, we watched it twice this evening and would watch again, but wouldnt buy it.

We really expected SO much more. It sounded very interesting!

I watched this movie. You can expect lot of good action from this movie (like any other Vin diesel movies). Nice thriller and adventure type of movie. Rather long journey or mission. Vin has a mission to accomplish which he cannot back out. So here it is, on the journey there's some humor/nice laughs with great actions. watch it and find out what is his mission/journey.

I've always loved Vin Diesel in all the movies I've seen him in. I saw this movie in the theatre and loved it. I can watch this over and over again.

i saw the movie and i thought it was alright. its a pretty good sci fi thriller. the effects and evrything are pretty good. story line was pretty interesting to.

My first reaction to Babylon A.D. was that it's not nearly as bad as its own director, Matthieu Kassovitz, has been claiming it is, although that reaction came to me before I got to the end of the movie. The movie has a cool set-up and a few good action sequences, although they suffer from that all too modern symptom of having been put together by editors who must have been on some kind of amphetamines. Like so many other recent action films (Death Race, for example), the fight scenes and chase scenes and whatnot are cut together so fast that they fly by with dizzying speed, and you move on with the rest of the movie with only a vague impression of what just happened.

I have to say that Babylon A.D. left me with the feeling that it could have and should have been so much better than it was, and I'm guessing that was the money-hungry hand of the studio that swept away all of the good parts of the movie. I'm hoping that when Babylon DVD comes along it will include the uncut, 160-minute version that the Europeans saw, along with an explanation of why it was so badly butchered before released to American audiences. At any rate, any Director's Cut is sure to be a different movie entirely.

Purchased to view the extended version. The ending makes more sense than the theatrical version, but leave the fate of the twins a mystery.

I am a fan of both Vin Diesel and of the genres in which he works, ergo, was a must-buy!

this movie has action and I like action movies and I like Vin desiel he is magnificent. He is a good actor.

Babylon A.D. is another one of many movies in Vin Disels ever growing acting collection. The special effects are amazing, and the acting is ok, but overall the movie is fairly decent.

I bought this film because Vin Diesel was in it. I have enjoyed all of his movies so far.
I was not disappointed. There is plenty of action and Vin's sarcastic humor.
The plot develops all through the film so that you are still interested in what is going to happen and why right up to the ending.
A very good movie that I do not hesitate to recommend to all.

This is a well made movie with good photography. The castining is poor with alot of over-acting by the lead young lady. Vin Diesel does a convincing job but his acting skills have not improved with time as one would expect. At times this futuristic movie seems to be made up of several older movie plots and only has some very faint originality. All in all it is not going to develop much of a following or be remembered very long but for a "B" movie it is good to watch once or twice a year. Like all of Vin Diesels movies you enjoy his performance but it would be great to see him develop more skills and range even if he never plays a different role other than the confused dedicated tough guy.

I am a Vin Diesel fan through and through so to me this movie was awesome. It was kind of interesting to see him with facial hair because we are so used to him not having hair at all. Of course he was still playing his typical bad boy image but with a little heart to him this time. Him caring the way he did is a turn on all in itself. Guns, danger, and Vin Diesel I mean really need I say more. Auora is such an awesome character also in this movie. I love how she can more or less predict things and save them from what is about to happen. And the way that it ends with her and Diesel is so sad. I know that you are not suppose to cry during the movie but it was just so sad that I started crying. I would really recommend anyone who is a Diesel fan to see this, as well as people who are not Diesel fans and just like a good movie.

Interesting Movie. Not Really My Cup Of Tea, But It Does Have Alot Of Action. Great Movie For Guys.

Babylon A.D. turned out differently than I thought. This movie have lot foul words and languages. Just good movie and have closed caption or subtitle english captioned.

The movie was good but not what I expected not to much action. Vin Diesel was great in this flick but he is know to be a great actor.

ordered on jan.15th, never received it. never heard back from the guy i bought it from. claimed filed.

Considering this movie has Vin Diesel in it, it could have been a lot better. I kept expecting more action. The reviews I had read led me to believe it was a horrid movie. So, I had to see for myself. The story line had a lot of possibility. Someone dropped the ball a little. I liked the story line. I liked the questions that came up in my head as the story progressed. This movie just lacked the action I would expect from a Diesel movie. I still think he's a great actor. Every movie needs a visionary behind it. This movie had a lack of vision by the director, not the actor. You can only do so much with what you have been given.

Lack of story line, characters did not draw you in to create sympathy or care about current situation. As a action film OK but left me wanting.

STOP! DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE! IT IS SLOW,AWFUL,AND I FELT STUPID FOR BUYING IT. THE ENDING WAS MY FAVORITE PART BECAUSE IT WAS OVER!!!

This is a tooth clenching hardcore action/fantacy movie that is not for the faint of heart. Vin Diesel is at his best, no nanny bits here, the movie in and of itself is action packed, heart stopping, and keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. A must see for those who love action and science fiction mixed together in fine form, see it if you dare and be ready to be entertained.

Vin Diesel is an up and comming actor of as yet untapped ability. In Babylon A D Vin gives a strong performance in a muddled story line. A good start in beginning of movie crippled by a wandering story line that doesn't come to much of a conclusion. Some good charators are also wasted in this somewhat senseless movie. I doubt a carefull recutting of this movie would change the outcome.
