More of the story: Babylon 5 The Lost Tales

I loved the Babylon 5 story, hated when we watched the last of Season 5 so when we saw the spots on TV about the Lost Tales we (my husband and I) had to buy it! Again a wonderful job, super story line! You always wonder what happened inbetween (after Sheridan left Babylon 5 and before his death)or at least I did. Though I was saddened to hear that the actors who played Dr. Franklin and G Khar had passed. Wonderful memorials are also on the DVD. I always enjoy when religion is handled respectfully in a program and Babylon 5 always was able to deal with the characters different beliefs with a great deal of openness and tact which again in the first part they did again. And then of course the ongoings in the Centari Republic! And of course our favorite Techno Mage is at it again, Galen! Can't get enough, hope that some more of the story is told!! We'll be waiting! Have fun!

It's about time! Wow! Babylon 5 fans should line up for this DVD! It should be a hit with many Sci-Fi fans!
It was shear pleasure to see Tracy Scoggins, Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Woodward at work in the Babylon 5 universe once more! The storylines were very good, and certainly fell inline with the orginial series. The production was great! My hat is off to JMS!
Sincere thanks to the cast and crew!
My only real concern; How soon can we expect the next installment!!!

Two separate B5 story lines; very little action but good it was OK. It makes be wish that MJS would get back in the game and produce more B5.

  Not quite what I expected...

I really was not prepared for a short story approach, but the directing, and the acting was a little to predictable, and formula based in the style of delivery of plot. It was nice to see Tracy's character explore her limits as Lochley, but I just expected a bit more substance to the features.

This was a nice addition to the B5 serious. It keeps you in check with where they are now... for the most part that is. this DVD has lots of extras like behind the sence talking to the actors and a touching look at two of B5's fallen heros. Dr. Steven Franklin(Richard Biggs) and the "Most Wise" G'Kar(Andreas Katsulas). both have gone BEYOND THE RIM and will be missed. The only down side was that it was missing more of the original cast. would of liked to of seen Garibaldi and Delenn if only for a minute on the view screen. but all in all two great lost tales.

Ps. what did Claudia Christian AKA... Susan Ivanova do to not even deserve having a picture mention in the title screen of this DVD?

You want the best bang for your buck! And thats what you'll find in this first installment of Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. It sent tingles down my spin as it will for you!

The show comes back with a new story arch in the making. With our memorable cast.

The show has a Greek Fable like feeling to it.

If you have even the slightest interest in Babylon 5 or were disappointed by other installments of recent Babylon 5 movies then this is for you.

The sheer inspiration and feeling it brings back to you is priceless.

  Babylon 5: The Lost Tales

I was totally unaware that Joe had made two more movies in the Babylon 5 universe. This movie is a must-see for all Babylon 5 fans. The production standards are higher than the series CGI and the plot fits in wonderfully with the previous story canon.

Lost Tales, maybe should have remained lost.

Let me start with: I have the entire collection of B5 movies and I am a huge SciFi fan, I even love the cheesey SciFis. That being said, I was very disappointed in the Lost Tales and understand why the Creator (Michael Straczynski) didn't make anymore movies after this one, he must have been disappointed by the final product. For those of you familiar with the story line, it really discredits Lennier's discipline and dedication. The movie was clearly direct to video only. The interface for the video start up is a bit lame also as it gives you four options (the entire movie, the 1st 1/2, the 2nd 1/2 and the extras). The movie feels like two separate episodes, that stand alone yet tie together (like a series should) but scrunched together as one move for mo other reason to call it a movie.

For those of you familiar with the Babylon 5 mini-series, this is nothing more than an extension of season 5 and has the same disconnected feeling of the final season.

If you are a big B5 fan and have seen the rest of the movies and series, then yes, you should get the movie for no other reason that to continue with the story line (even if it discredits Lennier). If this is you first or early voyage into SciFi (especially B5), then forget this movie as it will only discourage you and leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. If this is a gift for a SciFi fan, then find out if they fit into one of the two above categories.

I hope this review helps you make your decision.

Now I can say I have seen all of the B5 shows
Review created: 10/04/08

We purchased this DVD because it was "Babylon 5". I'm not an avid Sci Fi collector or critic. Just happened to like the B5 shows and movies.

Although the actors seem to fit back into their original roles rather well, it seemed to be a little empty and anticlimactic for a movie. If they had just been regular episodes, I would have just hoped that next week's show would be a little better.

  Babylon 5, The Lost Tales

As a Babylon 5 fan, I have missed the series and I have been trying to keep up with anything new. This new feature was a surprize to me with it's release. I had not heard about any new releases. As a DVD release with a small budget, I thought that overall story lines were very good and well produced. The action and personal interplay of the different characters were not played to the full extend as I was use to in the series. The bonus features were very good with the tributes to two of the essential characters from the series of Dr. Franklin (Richard Biggs) and G'kar (Andreas Katsulas), they will be missed. Overall, as a refreshing reminder of a great series such as Babylon 5, a very good DVD for true fans.

  Babylon 5 scraping the bottom
Review created: 06/28/08

I just watched the ENTIRE series of B5... and of course wanted more. It has been my experience in life, that prequills or sequals just do not do the original story justice. I have to say that watching these two stories, that they had little time, not a hugh budget.. and wanted one last hurrah..

If you need an new B5 fix.. you will not be satisfied with this.. actually I enjoyed the bonus material more than the first story..

Some of the visual effects shots were very nice.. like New York being fried or the Devil's cell... but alas visual effects a movie ( or DVD ) do not make.

Actors, reguardless of how good their individual preformances cannot carry the entire thing.. it's a blending between all the preformances wether in front or behind the camera..SO.. this get's one big Ehhhhh... and a shrug.

While it was good to revisit the Babylon 5 universe, this video fell short. It seemed as if it had two stories that would have made excellent Babylon 5 episodes, but just did not work as a movie. I hope this is not the end of Babylon 5.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Babylon 5 and were excited to see a new video out. Well, the three people on the cover are about the only ones you see. There are a few extras, but not many. I definitely regret spending my money on this movie.

  Why did they make this?
Review created: 03/08/08

Let me start by saying that I'd still like to see more high quality "real" Babylon 5 material (movie length, mini-series or the like, actually broadcast)

In a way it's too bad that Babylon 5 had a five year story arc. Even though I had trouble finding the "ranger" series [and then following the plot], I would certainly have watched more.

For example, there was the continuing saga of Londo and the Cetauri. Even though there was a flash-forward to a dismal end for him, I longed for an eventual redemption (and defeat of the "evil" parasite that controlled him along with any of its brethren; who were they anyway?).

There's a lot of talk in this DVD, and only a few actual sets (i.e. low budget). Even with the high quality of the music and graphics, there's very little "there" there in this effort. There are basically just two items on the Food for Thought menu, talked to death in the first "tale" and a bit simplistic in the second (though I share the hopeful choice Sheridan makes in the end)

Also on the positive side, there are a few intriguing shots of the concave landing bay on the inside of B5.

Which leaves me back where I started: why did they produce this item?

Was this a type of pilot being shopped around to the industry? The second tale certainly connects to the future of the Centauri Republic, so I can imagine it being the germ of an idea in that direction.

I searched through the extras for some insight as to "Why did they make this?", but found nothing.

Perhaps Babylon 5 was some kind of zenith for "old style" / "intelligent" sci-fi. With the demise of Star Trek: Enterprise and Stargate (the real series) it seems we've come to the end of an era, with the overwrought angst of the second coming of Battlesta Galactica and a couple of short-lived series being the style of the current generation.

Bottom line: I'm glad I bought this, but I'll probably watch it as most one more time.

Another good set of B5 stories
Review created: 03/04/08

Great set of short stories! It could only be better if they were able to get more of the classic characters involved. I never liked Captain Lockley that much but the solid story writing made it enjoyable to watch. Of course, any story with Sheridan is good, and the Galen (techno-mage) is interesting but Lockley and Galen just don't have my vested interest as say Garibaldi, Lando, or even Delenn. If you are a B5 fan, this is definitely worth watching though!
Keep 'em coming J.M.S!

Babylon 5, The Lost Tales was OK.

After just finishing a marathon stint watching
ALL the B5 Series episodes, this was not
quite up there with the verve and excitement
the series evoked.

But Hey, it IS part of the Babylon 5 Franchise,
so any B5 Addict HAS to get a copy.
And Like It.

Now to get the Crusade series.

Babylon 5: The Lost Tales DVD

This dvd is set 10 years in the future from the last episode of Babylon 5. It tends to show what has happened since and does close some of the questions that all the Babylon 5 fans were left with. I highly recommend this dvd, not only to the Babylon 5 fans, but to any science fiction fan.

It completes the collection, but I had hoped that it was better than it was. Not really needed for the storylines. Unless the end game is to have the complete collection of B5, to me it's not that essential!

  Entertaning, Enlightening, Excellent

This was a spectacular continuation of THE best sci-fi saga on the air. I am glad to see its return with such an entertaining and refreshingly different approach. Both stories are so thought-provoking, they border on being enlightening, and the effects are surely the best so far in this series. The acting is, as expected, fantastic. To top it off, Christopher Franke's sound track is a welcome return to the classic style which fans have come to associate with this legendary tale. Bravo!
