Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, Yogananda (1979, Paperback, Reprint)

After having the book recommended by three different people at different times in my life, I figured maybe I should read it. I was not open to the thought of a "guru" when I first opened this book. Needless to say, the eloquent and gentle touch of Paramahansa opened my eyes and my heart. My life will never be the same and I now study his lessons and his other books. What a Master for our time in bringing the principles of the United Religions Initiative to life and to the common people in language we can all understand.

Being raised a Christian, I left the church in my early twenties out of disgust for the hipocrasies I witnessed. I vowed to never return to organized religion and went off to learn about many other forms of honoring The Divine, including Buddhism, Paganism, Wiccanism, Shamanism and Native American ways. In that process, I tossed out my openness to learning from another guru...Jesus. Anything that had to do with the Bible or Jesus was sour in my mind and my memories.

With the reading of this book, which led to reading Yogananda's "Second Coming of Christ" I am now able to not only open my heart again to the teachings of Jesus, but am finally able to understand the true meanings of the Bible and not run away from it. I finally see the Truth in all forms of honoring The Divine, including the teachings of Jesus.

Forever I am grateful to my Great Teacher...Paramahansa Yogananda. He touched a place within me that opened my heart to all in a way that I never expected or imagined.

This book is a gem. A must read for all those who want to know about spirituality and the world of yogis. This book is very easy to read, which is difficult for the tough subject like spirituality. It is really an eyeopener and introduces one to various realms/dimensions of existence other than the earthly existence that we are all aware of. This book must be read several time to fully understand its significance. A must read book for all students of spirituality.

This is an excellent, excellent, excellent book! Paramahansa Yogananda renders a brilliant, poetic, exciting story of his life and those who made an impact upon it as he searched amongst the wise men of his time to become the magnificent yogi/swami that he became. He is a light and a guidepost to the world still many years after his death. The truths and realities that he expounds upon are timeless and for anyone in search of their own truth and the power of Kriya yoga...this book is a MUST READ!

Paramahansa Yogananda had the gift of imparting higher knowledge while making it actually easy and enjoyable to read. While telling the story of his life, he manages to impart many spiritual truths. Very highly recommended.

This is the book that first brought to the West testimony of what India's self-realized masters have achieved. The author is the first yogi to introduce yoga to the West.

The book is written in anecdotical manner. I find it hard to put down. Many people read it over and over again. This book contains a series of stories about the special powers, gifts and achievements of extraordinary people; the stories follow Yogananda's autobiography storyline. I personally feel touched reading this book and am inspired to invest energy in my own growth. The yoga mentioned in the book is the Kryia Yoga, which is designed to advance one on their spiritual development path.

This book is not the analytical, bulleted-list scientific report; it is written rather in the orathorical Indian tradition, with sentiment, humor and candor.

As a meditator, Reiki Master and yoga practitioner, I have developed an expanded perception and can sense energy. I feel uplifted and energized by merely holding this book in my hands. I gave a copy to my parents, and my own copy to a good friend. So I have bought another copy for myself on E-Bay.

I recommend this book to anyone passionate about self-emancipation.

It's a very inspiring book for those who are yearning for spirituality. the book has helped me to get through difficult times by teaching me to always have faith in god. Paramhansa Yogananda was a true spiritual master and i thank him for writing this book for us to read. god bless you all.

This book related to so much of my life. To find several things I've lived in a printed text has been an asset. Others I've shared this with have come back with experiences with others they've shared with. GREAT BOOK!!!

I have read this book three times, and feel the need to read it again. Each time I enjoy and learn. I gave it as a gift at times; the feedback has always been positive. It is a 'must read' for anyone who yearns to expand his/her spirit. It has been reprinted many times over these past 60 yrs, since 1946, because it simply rings 'True'.
